It's not often I get invested enough in a comedy movie that I find myself actively smiling as I watch it, this one did it for me. Not too long not too short, doesn't try to be something it isn't, and great writing to boot. I realized only after I watched it that it is an early Cohen brothers movie, looking back I see the signs. Thought provoking at times and tastefully juvenile at others. Not a masterpiece by any means, but this was a real good one.

I was hoping this would be better. I hadn't heard anything about this movie, I just saw it was a 90's Michael Douglas and I liked him so I gave it a go. A very 80's mystical movie. It first I thought that it must be allegorical for a much darker reality, but as the film progressed I realized it is just a fantastical tale of a young girl learning about life. I didn't particularly like the musical numbers but it was cool to see David Bowie more or less playing himself as the Goblin King. Also, it was interesting to see Jennifer Connelly in one of her very first roles.
