lacks the atmosphere cultivated by paul king in the previous two installments
still plenty to enjoy, as paddington combats the tide of european colonial power (in the form of olivia colman and Antonio banderas) in hopes of ensuring the preservation of his indigenous peruvian culture (bears)
feels like it lacks a bit of whimsy and visual marvel that king's Paddingtons offered
i find it oddly reassuring, as if some kind of twisted affirmation of life, to know that talented artists are able to create and release projects that can only be considered ungainly and immeasurably ugly
so much of this felt like an affront to movie making as an artistic medium - from the visuals, performances, script, and editing
it is interesting to see two cinematic titans release projects so concerned with the passage of time and how life pans out…
tedious and embarrassing
im sure some people may claim that Phillips' misuse of Lady Gaga's sonic range, and thus far proven acting prowess, was intentional so as to better frame Arthur Fleck's psyche as narcissistic and self-centered, but i will not buy it (although Gaga's companion album left a lot to be desired so maybe it really was for the best)
really just a phoned in tentpole that attempted to subvert expectations only to deliver something that fails to say…
