i truly believe pablo larrain does not understand women
the insistent male gaze through which he films all of his female biopic central figures, but especially maria, on the edge of insanity but still looking so beautiful, yet distant in her sadness and vulnerability, made me think that the most tragic thing about her death was that she was still oh so gorgeous when she eventually met her demise. so much for making the character easy to empathize with, which i feel like is something a biopic should at least strive for?Translated from by -
