what an awful and horrible movie!
this genuinely should be shown in every 20th century history class to remind us how atrocious humans are.

I'm going to preface this by saying this is definitely one of the weaker Studio Ghibli movies I have watched. There were many moments when I felt lost, as the plot felt somewhat padded out with unnecessary moments. Regardless, through all the fluff, it was a fantastic movie with a robust cast of characters and genuinely stunning cinematography. However, I feel like the character development was rushed. Mahito's relationship with the Sailor and Himi especially seemed to develop incredibly fast for a two-hour movie.
Regardless, I really enjoyed this movie. Studio Ghibli always does something special, and this was no exception.
I have never been so perplexed, sad, emotionless, happy, etc. etc. after watching a movie. Through the film I was mostly confused about the conflict or climax of the plot. It seemed like there was an impending sense of doom at every scene; but it never came. A lot of reviews here perfectly capture what Aftersun is about; so much so, that it's difficult to add anything without echoing what has already been said.
This film really hit like a train at the end. Do yourself a favour and dismay any cliches you expect from movies like this because none of them exist in this film.
