Leprechaun 1993
I’ve really enjoyed watching the next so-bad-it’s-good Friday the 13th sequel every Friday the 13th.
After seeing this, I’ve decided against doing the same with Leprechaun and St. Patrick’s Day.

LISAN AL GAIB!!!
Seriously though, Javier Bardem did such a phenomenal job of portraying exactly what Paul admits to earlier in the film:
“They used to be my friends, now they are my followers.”
And from the book:
In that instant, Paul saw how Stilgar had been transformed from the Fremen naib to a creature of the Lisan al-Gaib, a receptacle for awe and obedience. It was a lessening of the man, and Paul felt the ghost-wind of the jihad in it.
Chills at Bardem’s (perhaps under-appreciated) nuance in performing this arc so well and for Villeneuve and Spaihts for including it faithfully.

The Boy and the Heron 2023
I haven’t seen many people here describe the tone of the movie, and so I was worried about it being a big tearjerker going in.
While it has a moment or two of that, this is no Grave of the Fireflies. This is also doesn’t have the levity of My Neighbor Totoro or Spirited Away.
This movie is quiet, serious, contemplative, and cerebral. Don’t get me wrong, this is still very Studio Ghibli and includes fantastical worlds, unmatched animated beauty,…
