  Rewatched with my mother in law who hasn’t seen it since it came out in theaters when she was 11. She traumatically remembers much it. I believe this rewatch was a cathartic experience. She likes the music.

  This is A LOT of movie. 

  I enjoy massive budget movies with an extreme singular vision. I enjoyed a lot of this movie. The delightfully campy performances and acid-trip visuals will give the film some staying power.

  But it was about way too many things, and it was not designed with the rigor necessary to land any of them.

  I am very sympathetic to anyone trying to make a movie about the creation of a utopia. It’s rarely attempted and almost never successful. I appreciate the attempt. However the third act does sadly become laughable in its unearned ending.

Following
