weird as hell but i felt like it portrayed the idea of burying your old self to be new. poor owen didn’t get to be new and had to live the rest of his life mundane because he didn’t want to face the truth and take the risk. aesthetics and scenery was really cool but some parts felt too weird as in forced but now that i say that it was probably done to represent the idea of how things as kids used to feel really over the top and exaggerated and how they lose their spark when you age
The plot was interesting, and it portrayed the communal aspect of NYC pretty well. The art style was great and fresh and can probably be attributed to the Miles Morales Spider-Man movies. Was a bit cringey when they were excessively using New York "slang," but some of it was surprisingly used well. Didn't like the "if we do what they did to us it's just as bad" message.
After rewatching it, I realized this movie is the filmifcation of Melodrama by Lorde. The tragedy of heartbreak and the explanation of what is necessary of us to part it. The cyclical aspect of the movie parallels the cyclical nature of Lorde's sophomore album. I feel so vulnerable and get teary-eyed when watching this and think of all the necessary partings I had to endure in my life and how I felt then compared to now. This is a truly unique movie, done very well; no other movie can recreate what was done here.
