I'm not a fan of vampire movies generally. Why watch it then? We'll it wasn't my turn to pick the movie, and honestly I had hoped I would like it more since it was based on such a classic film. It was basically everything I don't like about vampire movies in a movie.
The acting was pretty good. The movie was dramatic. The anguish and horror was there. But it was a bit slow. If you are like me and don't normally like vampire movies, you probably won't like this one either.
It's like a live action Looney Tunes cartoon in black and white turned into a silent movie with next to no dialog and it's hilarious. Gag after gag of a poor lumberjack trying to outsmart the rabbits and beavers. I got lots of Bugs Bunny and Wile E. Coyote vibes.
I suspect this movie would be more hilarious if you were high. It is absurd and surreal, which i was expecting going in, and I definitely enjoyed the very weird ride. Everyone is the same, and everyone is polite, a bit like Stepford Wives maybe. Everyone has braces and wear matching clothes. It's very bright and vibrant, with this dark undercurrent of emotions that no one wants to show. Have you tried the pool water? It's delicious!
What a great movie. The only thing I didn't quite get was the ending. Maybe it was just meant to be dark humor but it just kind of confused me.
We talked about it the day after seeing it which means we both were impressed & it just doesn't go quite the way you think.
