The movie tried being many things, and ultimately it should’ve expanded on what it was trying to achieve with its third act, which was a combination of Straw Dogs and Evil Dead. But it lacked both movies charm and creative direction. It’s last act was a lot of fun, however, and I wish the movie would’ve focused on that.

Equal parts horror, equal parts dark fantasy. This updated version of Hellraiser is a love letter to the original film and Clive Barker’s dark fantasy novels. David Bruckner is the perfect choice as director for this reinterpretation of Hellraiser. Odessa A’zion as Riley is the most compelling hero that by the end you’ll sympathize with her and root for her to overcomes her demons—both external and internal.
