  nascent gandalf spends time with hobbit ancestors thousands of years ago and now every time something goes wrong in middle-earth he books it straight to the shire and makes some unassuming hobbit the linchpin of his next save-the-world master plan… i think that’s beautiful! that he was so moved by the courage and kindness in these little dudes when he first crashed to middle-earth that for the rest of his life he has this enduring unshakable belief in their ability…
