A deconstruction of the film noir genre in which Park Chan-wook delicately arranges a detective film far more interested in uncovering the mysteries of the heart than actually solving the murder. Decision to Leave is somewhat of a departure from the usual bloody revenge stories with the mind-boggling twist in the middle that the audiences have come to expect but it nevertheless presents a bold vision and a masterful playfulness common in his films.

Drive My Car is really a film about communication (and lack thereof). As the three-hour experience methodically unfolds, the characters are forced to face their preconceptions about communication with themselves, with others and with an audience. In the film we see two versions of a play. One is played by a multitude of actors all speaking in different languages. Despite not being able to directly communicate, they can still understand each other as long as they’re actively trying to connect…
The new 7-hour restoration by Georges Mourier, with live music by the National Orchestra of France, the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Radio France Choir, under the direction of Frank Strobel. World premiere during the 4th and 5th of July, 2024 at the Seine Musicale, Paris.

Top Gun: Maverick is the model blockbuster adapted for the modern age. Improving upon the rather…
This film adaptation of Macbeth stands tall on strong theatrical and cinematic foundations that it definitely does not shy away from. With its abstracted set-pieces reminiscent of German expressionism it often feels more like an extension of the stage rather than a naturalized cinematic adaptation.
I think the important lens through which this adaptation should be viewed and understood is the age of the titular couple. Both Denzel Washington (Macbeth) and Frances McDormand (Lady Macbeth) are over 60 and this…
