damn man. its insane how this film is as relevant today as it was in 1989.

on a technical standpoint, holy shit this movie is a masterpiece. 36 years later and this film looks IMPECCABLE, the camera work, the blocking, the lighting EVERYTHING. the set design is also amazing, a lot of colors that POP out at you.

love the scenes where the characters talk directly to the camera. the dialogue really felt natural, just felt like friends/neighbors talking. so…

first thing off the bat, IM SO GLAD I WAITED TO SEE THIS MOVIE ON A REAL IMAX SCREEN. seeing this on such a big screen and literally FEELING the score was unreal. what an experience this film is, this DOES NOT FEEL LIKE A 3 AND A HALF HOUR MOVIE. idk how Brady Corbet and writer Mona Fasvold did it but the movies…

this movie is BATSHIT INSANE. had no idea what this movie was about but its such an “80’s movie” its so fun lol. a regular truck driver being tossed into a world of “chinese black magic” because someone stole his truck lol. my favorite part is Kurt Russell’s Jack Burton being flabbergasted by whatever is happening on screen and no one explaining it to him. everyone playing their characters so straight and Jack yelling “what the hell is that?!” was just so funny. also NIGHTMARE FULE MONSTERS that had a combined screen time of like 5 minutes 😭😭 so crazy lol.

it does not make sense to take a book so melancholy, so scary and turn it into an adventure comedy. it does not make sense to make a movie this expensive and stick it on a streaming platform. it does not make sense to make a movie about technology and its effects on humans and and defend AI’s use in filmmaking. this movie does not make sense.

Joe Russo would be a villain in his own movie. Netflix’s insistence on…

a motivational speaker with no motivation. a professional helper who can’t help himself. someone who gets paid to tell people they’re special but does not believe that everyone is. the stop motion makes this movie a bit uncanny, a bit creepy, really driving home the fact that this is inspired by the Fregoli Delusion. you have to wonder how the hell this movie got made. an adult animated psychological drama with only 3 actors, one of those actors credited as playing Everyone Else. its beautiful, its sad, its definitely Charlie Kaufman.
