to me this was so much about naivety, the sheltered haven of upper middle class America, the sweet cautiousness of being a girl with a crush, standing at the threshold between youth and insanity, a line that we all inevitably cross at some point, where we all begin to understand that darkness can take many forms, it’s about the mystery and violence of red lipstick and sexuality and that saccharine happy ending punctuated by a robin who represents love that also eats bugs 😛
