Love in the Big City 2024
it was a sweet story about friendship & i understand why they went with the “charismatic girl’s gay best friend” route but i would have wished it was more abt the dude’s gayness. i watched this with 2 other gays and we all collectively got triggered several times so it /was/ still relatable. and i do think platonic love should get the spotlight like this. i just think the movie was too palatable to the straight gaze. that said, i do recognize that it’s probably still very bold given the cultural zeitgeist & i’m wearing a foreign lens.

i must be stupid cuz despite all the red flags i believed in the twink…like i was fully swept off my feet by the love story & i thought the plot was gonna them fighting for their love against his mafia family. i was hoping he had a reason to run but his family wasn’t even dangerous; he was just a spoiled brat. and his “endearing” qualities were revealed to be nothing but incompetence. as the scenes became more absurd & drawn…

ps: nicholas hoult is soooo good at being a scared puppy. i wish we could see more of bill but he was consumed by orlok. i literally just watched bullet train so i kept thinking of aaron t-j as tangerine.
