Good story undersold by a muddled script. Sissy Spacek and Jeff Daniels are great considering what they’re working with. Not a Great American Movie, not something I would recommend to just anyone, but I basically enjoyed it.
I watched it with my girlfriend’s family and her mom worked as a parole officer in Tennessee in the aftermath of this scandal, so she was able to fill some blanks in and provide some much needed color to the proceedings. That’s probably the best way to experience Marie because it is definitely made with people who are already familiar with the story in mind.
