This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
bad. not good. actually might be horrible!
i just don’t understand what happened. I will admit i was distracted and sleepy but the plot was not plotting. there was zero romance. the “letters” were like them exchanging reddit posts with each other. where’s the love?? the chemistry?
and then kathleen still falls in love with the man that put her 42 year old neighborhood library out of business???? cmon man
anyway, will try another romcom and give the genre another chance
this movie was strike 1
hands down one of my favorite series. it has everything i love: violence, romance, and experimental elements.
the relationships were so well fleshed out, every emotion felt 4D, the filming was exquisite.
i cried inside and outside for this movie and the ending was unlike one ive ever seen before (interpretive dance?? black and white??)
would recommend to anyone who wants to delve into the world of yakuza and understand the pain of duty and shame (giri/haji)
i understand that she’s a highly acclaimed poet and spoken word girly, but i felt that we didn’t need a performance in every dialogue. It made interactions less authentic.
the beauty and actual filming of the land and scenes was really well done! I could watch a quiet film of Palestine any day (we can see the past just through that)
i did love emad, his family, everyone aside from sayoura. i wish we saw more about the people and their lives.
Loved how it opened at Uchicago bc every good movie starts there (mean girls @northwestern). first ever romcom and I think I get the hype. there was definitely a plot but I could barely tell because there was so much to giggle and goo over!
Still hasn’t cured my disease of being unable to rewatch a movie but I loved the softness of it.
(need to watch something with blood and action soon- not fully converting to romcom just yet)
