I know this is something people say often for new Cantos, and it hasn't really happened yet, but I've seen a few people say that Hong Lu will "get worse" ie have character development that just outright makes him a worse, harder to be around, person in ch8.

Since you're the Hong Lu guy, I was wondering what your thoughts on that possibility were. (Also the possibility of him trying to leave LCB as a result of this deterioration, another idea I've seen around).

Short answer: Likely to get worse, by technicality.

Long answer: Hong Lu as a person underneath the mask he puts on already seems like a generally much more unpleasant guy to be around than his fake persona. As his development will likely involve being more genuine and thus no longer relying on that mask, it means that unpleasant part of him will become much more noticeable, thus making him come off as becoming worse despite merely exposing what was always there.

The leaving LCB point is a bit harder to judge. I think it’s more likely for him to attempt that early on in Canto 8 (as him surrendering to his fate and refusing to fight his Family reclaiming their property), but at the end of it he’d decide that There Is A Reason To Keep Fighting and chooses his allegiance with the LCB for good (or at least for now).

Do you think that aside from the obvious Bad End Hong Lu, no other Sinners will be getting IDs based on the Jia family members? And it'll be mostly servants, non-Jia families, or other outsiders?

By the same token as all of the Canto 6 IDs: Dead Rabbit Meursault is an outside Syndicate, Outis, Ishmael, Faust and Ryoshu were all Butlers, and Gregor was based on Linton, who married into the Earnshaws.

I think that’s what makes the most sense, yes!

Jia Family member IDs would just come with too many weird implications for PM to do it I think. Like there’s a difference between the Bloodfiend IDs implying a Mirror World where specific Sinners got turned or even turned other Sinners, and hypothetical Jia Family memeber IDs where they’re for some reason Hong Lu’s full ass siblings and such.

Plus like. I think PM has enough brains to know that having an ID that implies a Chinese Family randomly gave birth to like a white woman or something would be a little bit weird.

hi, i was reading through your two in one theory and i noticed the section on hong lu’s dish. the list is incorrect, in that it doesn’t account that rodya’s food was changed to chicken blini, and most importantly, it incorrectly translates hong lu’s dish. hong lu’s hampang dish was 고추잡채, which when translated literally does mean chilli japchae, but it’s actually the term used for pepper steak in korean. it’s served alongside flower buns because that’s how the dish is commonly eaten in korea, but i’m not entirely sure if that applies outside korea.

i’ve seen people get confused as to why hong lu got a seemingly korean dish due to that mistranslation being spread around. i don’t think it’ll affect the theory too much, but something to know!

I, admittedly, don’t even entirely know the original source of the translated list I was provided, so I had no real way to verify how accurate it was. It doesn’t change the fact that it’s still the only dish on the menu that is essentially made up of Two dishes, but it Does also make more sense the way you describe it.

I’ll add a note about the incorrect translation to the post in a bit.

Sure, let’s see what I can come up with.

For Spider of Marriage, I’m thinking something along the lines of “Web Arrangement”. The Web part is meant to reference both a literal spider’s web, but also the metaphorical web of marriage that the pair is caught up in. Arrangement is, of course, meant to refer to an arranged marriage, as the MD event makes it pretty clear that the pair’s situation is not one they entered of their own free will.

Alternately, I could see the name for this E.G.O being some sort of reference to Pride and Prejudice, just like the gift it gives in MD. Unfortunately, I know nothing about that book so I can’t really share any specific ideas beyond that.

For Wandering Mind, I’d go with a straightforward “Out-of-body Experience”. The Abnormality itself appears to be based on that concept, it being a reflection of a mind that wandered away from its body. Plus, both of its gifts are named in reference to conditions where a person perceives a physical sensation despite no actual physical stimuli being present, which I think fits well thematically.

For Star Luminary, I’d go with something along the lines of “Vision of a Star”. We know that related Abnormalities have a tendency towards E.G.O names with similar structures, so I wanted the name to parallel Blue Star’s Sound of a Star E.G.O. Additionally, I chose “Vision” specifically because the word is often used to describe precognition, aka visions of the future, something referenced by the Abno’s MD gift.

My main thoughts can boil down to being. Well. I suppose alternate interpretations of the different aesthetic and thematic choices PM has made with the Pinky that you already used in your own analysis and speculation post.
