Ekmel GECER
Ekmel Gecer holds a PhD from Loughborough University. After working at Sakarya University for four years (2015-2019), he became a lecturer at the Psychology Department of the University of Health Sciences, Istanbul (2019-2023). He is currently an associate professor of social psychology at Marmara University, Istanbul. Gecer also delivered lectures at psychology departments of Universitaet Dortmund/Institut Für PsyChoLoGie an Der Tu DortMund (Germany), Würzburg University (Germany), Birmingham City University (UK), International Balkan University and Sigmund Freud University (Vienna).
Gecer has studied theology in Turkey and has an MA in Religion Psychology. He then decided to pursue postgraduate research into Communication and Psychology at a UK University while regularly contributing to Turkish periodicals and newspapers. He finished his second MA in New Media, Governance & Democracy from Leicester University in 2009 with a thesis on "Political Communication and Psychology".
Ekmel Gecer has explored a broad range of psychology, politics and communication issues, written dozens of articles in scientific journals and presented papers at national and international conferences specialising in communication, media, cyber and political psychology. GECER contributed to many projects mostly related to multiculturalism and psychology. He is the author of seven books: (1) Media, Popular Culture and Psychology, (2) Understanding Turkish Media: A Democratic Structure Is Possible? (3) Paradoxal Defeat of Authenticity: Essays on Communication, Culture and Politics, (4) Social Media and Communication Psychology: Personality, Polarization and Algorithm, (5) Handbook of Social Psychology (edited with Meryem SERDAR), (6) Psycho-Pathology of Everyday Lives, (7) Intercultural Communication: A Psychological Perspective.

Gerek Türkiye’deki gerekse diğer ülkelerde kadın cinayetleri ve kadına yönelik istismar iddiaları sonrasında ortaya çıkan eylemler ve yeni medyanın bu eylemlerin organize edilmesindeki rolü, bütün şüphelere rağmen sosyal medyanın etkinliğinin dikkate alınması gerektiğini gösteriyor. Bu bağlamda yeni medyanın bütün ötekileştirilenler genelinde ve kadınlar özelinde artan kullanımı, bireyler arasında eşitlik adına, hak ihlallerinin daha yüksek sesle konuşulması adına, farklı kesimlerin medyaya daha rahat ulaşmaları adına ciddi fırsatlar sunmaktadır.
Bu nedenle söz konusu çalışma; kadının ve kadın örgütlerinin kamusal alanda var olma mücadelesini görünür kılmada önemli rolü olan yeni medyanın; kadın haklarına olan ilgiyi artırıp artırmadığını, kadının politik katılım tavrını iyileştirip iyileştirmediğini; medya ve toplumsal söylemde ayrılıkçı dil ve ayrımcılıkla ile mücadele edip edemeyeceğini; kadın organizasyonları ve politika uygulayıcıları arasında köprü kurup kuramadığını ve bütün bunlardan yola çıkarak kadının teknoloji ile ilişkisini düzenleyip düzenlemediğini ulusal ve uluslararası örnekler bağlamında ele alacaktır.
