I once thought of a story line, like, a decade ago about how a tear just opened up in the sky. Probably aliens. I think I opted for aliens. So, you’d have this big old tear in the sky. Miles long. Everywhere else is blue with fluffy clouds. But right here there’s this ugly gash and it’s so very wrong.
But the thing is, it wouldn’t show up on camera.
So you’d have this population of people, looking up at the sky, going ‘What is happening and why isn’t anyone doing something about it? This is terrifying.’
And the media going.
'What is?’
—
The plot wouldn’t resolve with anything being done about the tear in the sky. It would resolve when the people directly affected could prove SOMETHING IS WRONG.
IF they could prove it.
And also something something something about how news media shapes perception. Yeah.
—
Shoulda done that story.
Would have felt like a goddamn prophet.
Essex can be very cool when she isn’t dying.
Essex is from BLACK CLOAK . Artwork by Meredith McClaren
Description: An illustration of Essex from BLACK CLOAK. She’s dressed stylish/casual with a large padded purse. In her purse is two taka (they’re like magical cats) The old grey one is sitting on top of the younger, smaller white one. Essex is looking away from the audience as she sips bubble tea. Her wings are unfurled but fading out to the side.

…i have, once again, played myself
Description:
A three panel comic in black and white.
Panel 1: A wibbly wobbly me dances across the page, tiredly chanting ‘bed, bed, bed.’
Panel 2: The panel goes dark as the camera closes in on me. A horrible realization has dawned on me.
Panel 3: Text reads 'The laundry I left on my bed. So I would have no choice but to fold it’ sitting above a large pile of clothes spread out over my bed. Kneeling in defeat on the floor, to the right of the bed, is a little version of myself.
Black Cloak v2 is out March 26th!
Here’s a little video of me adding the final touches to a page.

Enjoy Snake Day tomorrow.
(It’s not actually Snake Day. That’s, like, in July, I think. It’s just St. Patty’s Day. So drink. And be nice to snakes. Pat did them dirty.)
Description: An illustration of a green snake against a black background. The snake is coiled around a cluster of four leaf clovers. Though it starts as bright green at the top, it fades into a blue/purple towards the bottom. One deep red eye stares at the audience.
