ABSTRACT
This article offers an in-depth analysis of the crucial role that school physical education
plays in promoting emotional balance and resilience in adolescents diagnosed with
depression. It begins with a contextualization of adolescence depression, highlighting its
prevalence, consequences, and the urgent need for effective intervention strategies.
Subsequently, a detailed literature review reveals the relationship between regular
physical activity and mental health.
The research focuses on the specific benefits of school physical education on mental
health, such as promoting coping skills, improving self-esteem, and strengthening
resilience. The importance of the school environment as a safe space for the
development of these skills is also discussed, as well as the need for adequately trained
physical education teachers to support students with depression.
Empirical data collected through case studies illustrate how a structured physical
education program can contribute to improving depressive symptoms, promoting
greater emotional balance, and increasing the resilience of adolescents. This article
concludes with a call for the implementation of public policies that integrate physical
education as a central strategy in the treatment and prevention of adolescent
depression.
