What is Reverb?

Most people who have been in the Soul Eater fandom for a while know about Resbang: the annual fandom event in which authors write a fic inspired by the year’s theme, then are paired with artists who create art based on their author’s story.

And Reverb- or Reverse Resbang- is exactly what it sounds like. It’s Resbang, but backwards. In a Reverb event, the artists take the lead, unleashing their creativity on the annual theme, then writers make the selection of which art they would like to write for and partner up with one (or more!) artists. Reverb, like Resbang, relies on forming partnerships between artists and writers to create content together.

Like Resbang, communication between partners is key in creating quality content. Once authors have chosen their artists (which will be done in a blind draw based solely on the written summaries provided by the artists, so as to avoid favoritism), the two (or possibly more, depending on participation numbers) partners will need to stay in regular contact in order to develop stories. Since the artist is in the driver’s seat for Reverb- which was the main inspiration for organizing this event, allowing artists the chance to take the lead- it’s important for partners to keep channels of communication open in order to create the best possible synthesis of their mutual creativity.

Who can participate?

EVERYONE! We want to make it very clear that this is a fandom event that everyone is welcome to participate in.

Don’t think you’re “talented” enough to participate? Sign up anyway! Reverb isn’t about talent, it’s about having fun and creating new things and hopefully growing and learning as an artist or as a writer (or even both)!

Uncertain whether you should participate because you don’t know many people in the fandom? Sign up anyway! Big bang events like Reverb are a great way to get to know new people— we’d argue that it’s one of the main draws!

If you don’t think you’ll have the time or energy (or just plain don’t want to participate), fear not! You still get to kick back and enjoy all the gorgeous art (and accompanying fanfiction) at the end of the event!

What roles are there as a participant?

Artists- The Brains. Your ideas will be submitted to our fabulous authors to bring your vision from your hands to the page

Authors- The Brawn. Authors will be provided the opportunity to claim one of our tremendously talented artists to give voice to their ideas.

Beta - The Assist. Betas offer anything from idea bouncing to proofreading to art direction.

Volunteer- The backbone of the operation. When life gets in the way and authors are not able to complete their fics you step up to provide for our orphaned Artists. As a volunteer we will never force you into taking on a project that you are not confident you can manage or makes you uncomfortable but this roll is best suited for someone who is flexible in their pairing and content criteria.
