i think it was kind of weird to say "trans men do better" right after saying you only listed artists you personally listen to. im sure it was just a joke, but it felt in super poor taste, esp when transmasc music is subject to the same erasure any other transmasc art is.

it's not transmasc artists' fault that you dont know them. i dont think it was fair to make that joke, esp on a post meant to drum up trans visibility

I AM a trans man making a joke about how I wish more trans men made music I like lol, I promise it’s not that deep or serious.

I’m assuming you are a stranger coming to my blog without knowing anything about me at all but I am deeply involved in my local music scene and have dedicated a massive portion of my life to uplifting small-scale and predominantly queer artists. A lot of the trans folk on that list are friends or friends-of-friends, including BOTH of the trans men I initially listed!

That is to say, I am not a casual or passive music listener. I have probably spent more time than nearly anyone else seeking out and researching FTM alternative musicians and my wanting to see more is, yknow, born of the fact that I am a trans man who likes alternative music. Even now the two additional artists I’ve added to the FTM category via others’ recommendations since making my post are not binary trans men, just transmasculine leaning—Which is fine and awesome, but imo perfectly demonstrates the deficit in representation trans men have in this subculture. Obviously doesn’t mean they don’t exist, but they are objectively not easy to come by. That was a way for me to say “I would like to see more trans men involved in my community doing cool stuff I like.” You don’t have to personally like my tone but it’s silly to interpret that as me being unfair or speaking in “poor taste.”

*Goes without saying this group may have some overlap with the ones above, just trying to broadly categorize based on how the artists within the band seem to identify—in this case, those who have not seemed to verbally state any lean towards either binary gender, no auxiliary binary pronouns, etc.

Obviously not a complete list. Trying to name artists I personally know and like from the genres I listen to. Feel free to add on your own recommendations!

whenever people say shit like “i couldn’t be polyamorous, i’m so jealous and possessive. if my partner even LOOKS at another girl/guy i’m gonna kick them out of a window” i’m like well you should probably be working on that. like even if you don’t end up doing polyamory it’s probably good to not be like that
