Helsingør Kommune (variant Inglis name: Helsingør / Elsinore municipality), is a municipality (Dens, kommune) in Caipital Region o DenmarkRegion Hovedstaden on the northeast coast o the island o Zealand (Sjælland) in eastren Denmark. The municipality covers an aurie o 122 km², an haes a total population o 60,844 (2008). Its mayor as o 2010 is Johannes Hecht-Nielsen, a member o the Leeberal Pairty (Venstre) poleetical pairty.

The main toun an the steid o its municipal cooncil is the toun o Helsingør (an aw referred to in Inglis as "Elsinore"). Ither touns include Ålsgårde, Espergærde, Hellebæk, Hornbæk, Horneby, Snekkersten, an Stenstrup.

History

The toun as we ken it the day wis foondit in the 1420s bi the Dens king Eric o Pomeranie. He established the Sound Dues in 1429 an built the castle 'Krogen', which wis made bigger in the 1580s an namit Kronborg. Kronborg Castle, kent internaitionally as the settin o William Shakespeare's theatre play Hamlet, is the day the toun's main tourist attraction.
