Disco Elysium out there with the real artist experience
Hi! Have you heard Emmrich's english voice over? What do you think of it in comparison to the german one? Since I've played with the german VO, it is impossible for me now to imagine Emmrich speaking any other language, but German, lmao. I couldn't help but feel an URGE to discuss his cool voice with someone.
I'm glad you're asking about that! I've watched some cut scenes in English and also saw some interviews with the original voice actors. Emmrich's voice actors sound very similar in my opinion. A friend of mine agreed as I was showing him one of my recorded scenes and he prefers to play his games with English voices.
But I'm a big fan of German voice acting in general (I'm probably dying on that hill), so... yeah, I agree, for me Emmrich just talks German, it fits too well! ๐ Especially when he has this moments of utter excitement ("Fantastisch, Rook!"), I just have to giggle along, he's so adorable. His voice actor Robin Brosch did such an amazing job and I hate that they never get any credit for that. I want to celebrate our amazing voice actors, too!
The only thing that keeps bugging me in a lot of fantasy games (though that's more a matter of translation): Why keep your friends addressing you formally when they are pretty close, especially your love interest? I hate that, ugh. And I noticed that Evka and Antoine don't do that when talking to each other, so... another "Ich liebe Euch!" and I'll snap! ๐
Apart from that I was very excited to get the names of the voice actors from the credits and I looked them up just to find out that Robin Brosch also voiced Poe from Altered Carbon - perfect fit, too! ๐
Thank you for bringing that up, really! I could talk about that topic all day, as you can see ๐
One thing I love about Witch Hat Atelier is how Kamome Shirahama mixes and matches a bunch of different art styles.
The overall style of the manga seems to be mostly inspired by illustrations from old fairy tales
(Household stories from the collection of the Bros. Grimm 1922)
But Kamome combined this Fairy Tale style with elements from many other styles, for example:
("Zodiac" by Alphonse Mucha 1896)
("illustration for Le Morte Darthur" by Aubrey Beardsley 1893)
("A New Book Of Ornaments With Twelve Leaves" Matthias Lock and Henry Copland, 1752)
("The Apotheosis of Hercules" Franรงois Lemoyne 1736)
The western style should come as no surprise since Kamome did work for DC Comics
There are probably a lot more art styles hidden in Witch Hat Atelier that I missed, so let me know if you spot anything else.
My half of an art trade with the amazing @okktober-draws
This was so fun to work on and acts as a companion piece to a previous art trade
There's so much fantastic Emmrich fan art out there that this feels a bit lazy in comparison, but... I love to draw faces, if that counts as an excuse. And then I decided to add certain flowers ๐
DATV has barely been out a week and people are already arguing over if it's better/worse than BG3 but I'm just out here saying 'yay two cakes' because now I have TWO graveyard dates to go on, TWO gentleman professors of magic to romance, TWO elven hunks who love animals to tenderly gaze into the eyes of. I can pet the owlbear cub AND I can pet Assan. I'm sandwiched between Taash and Karlach's abs as I speak.
