she/they, queer, 30+, I'm a writer of M/M fantasy and sci-fi romance. My debut novel Built on Ruins is available on Amazon. This is a side blog, I follow from winglesss.

Writeblr (re)intro

I'm not new here, but I'm trying to be more active after disappearing for a while and it looks like I might finally be building some community so let's do this!

Sadly, this is a side-blog so I follow and interact from @winglesss

I'm Kate (they/them) and I'm a queer sci-fi/fantasy romance writer.

My goal is to write books I want to read — the kind of books I missed when I was younger, where queer people go on adventures, fall in love, and eventually get their happy ending. I’m a big fan of escapism, so there is always some fantastical element to my books, but it’s hard to tell whether my next story will take place in space or in the fairy realm. Thanks to my rich background in fanfiction, you can expect my books to be fast-paced, character-driven, and full of lovely tropes.

I self-published my debut novel BUILT ON RUINS

It's available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited.

My current WIPs:

Foreigner God

Synopsis: two hostile nations, two reincarnated gods, two men who want to do good by their people, and a dark force that doesn’t care whose life it takes. The only way to defeat it is to join efforts, to reveal the past and tap into lost powers even if it means falling in love with the enemy.

Status: Finishing 1st draft

Ghost/Monk/Witch

Synopsis: Victorian paranormal romance between a witch-hunting monk, an eccentric witch, and the dead owner of the countryside manor where it all takes place (M/M/M)

Status: Draft 1 on hold

You want it darker

Synopsis: Distopic fantasy, enemies to lovers, the bed guy gets the guy

Status: Plotting

What I post

Tag games, writing memes, writing resources, some whiny posts about my own writing

There are two types of writers:

1. 'It's fiction, it doesn't need to make sense!'

2. 'I didn't account for the rotation of the planet and how that affects the constalations while my characters stargazed at different times of year, I have failed as a writer, and this entire thing is trash'

generally you shouldn't write run-on sentences because they get confusing and it doesn't give the reader a break. that doesn't apply to me though my run-on sentences are fun and understandable and they have a rhythm to it that makes you want to keep reading

Looking for people to tag in games for writers

Hi! I wanna try to be more active after nearly abandoning this blog (and my writing). There's a heap of unanswered tag games in my inbox but I feel like I would be tagging the same three people over and over again. So if you are a writer and want to be added to my list (and become friends) please react to this post 💚✍️📖

Friday Kiss Tag

Thanks for the tag @theink-stainedfolk! This kiss is from my upcoming novella In Every Hue

“May I kiss you?” Ehosu says eventually, taking Charlie’s breath away.

“Kissing has a certain meaning to humans.”

Ehosu’s lips curl up in a smile. They look very kissable.

“I know what kissing means to humans.”

Charlie heaves a deep breath. “Alright. Let me-” he reluctantly lets go of Ehosu’s wrist and gets up to walk around the table and squeeze next to them.

They give him a sweet smile, their eyes falling to his lips.

“Okay, let’s do this,” Charlie says a bit shakily. He doesn’t remember the last time he was this nervous about a kiss. He lifts his hand and lets it hover near Ehosu’s face. “May I?”

He would recognize the click that comes as a “Yes” without the translator. Gently cupping Ehosu’s cheek with his hand, he leans closer. Ehosu’s lips are soft and warm. Charlie presses against them very softly, but his whole body feels aflame with need just from the brief touch. He leans back only to check Ehosu’s reaction and when he sees a flood of orange and red, he resumes the kiss. This time, he uses a hint of tongue, eliciting a surprised sound from Ehosu. They catch up pretty quickly, though, and the kiss soon turns into one that leaves Charlie breathless. He laughs softly when they part and rubs his thumb against Ehosu’s jaw.

“So? What do you think?” he asks, unable to tear his eyes away from Ehosu’s lips glistening with saliva.

“To be honest, I expected it to be kind of disgusting,” Ehosu admits, their red cheeks turning yellow. “But I liked it, I liked it a lot,” they add, lowering their big eyes shyly.

I absolutely love your take on this and now I need to play the game (or read the book at least) 😄

i think more characters should have walking / standing up difficulties of all kinds and it should be just normal.. please give me guys who use canes or wheelchairs or have balance issues or have to sit down a lot or have weird gaits ... and please let them still be cool and respected and possibly even do cool action stuff sometimes... this would be nice.

Character + room tag game

Tagged by @winglesswriter to make a character with this https://picrew.me/en/image_maker/1855819 and their room with https://picrew.me/en/image_maker/2439614.

I made my new little disaster guy, Felix Woods. He's a disgraced changeling prince trying to make it in the city, with ancient magic and eccentricities coloring his life by trying to pull it apart.

Aww look at this cute bisexual disaster! And I absolutely love his room, I could easily live there 😄

writing tip #3767:

the best twist possible is revealing your entire novel is the lengthy introduction to an online recipe for sausage bake
