Shiloh - she/they πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

In this scene,

Do we think that:

a) They don't have schoolbags for some reason (why???? that's a lot of books!! you cannot carry all of them comfortably!)

or

b) They're employing the age-old teenager stratagem of "well our next class is like five minutes that way and I'm not repacking my bag just to unpack it again when I get there. everyone load up"

or

c) Mysterious third option

Remember, this is 1959.

The first modern backpack was not invented until 1952, but they did not gain popularity because they were heavier. A lightweight nylon version was invented in 1967. But it didn’t really become popular to use as a school bag until the 1980s.

In Dead Poets Society, when the gun shot goes off, the sound is cut and we see Neil's father wake up. He's the only person that heard it.

If a tree falls in a forest with nobody around, did it even make a sound?

Neil's father was never willing to listen to Neil. His insistence that Neil follow a path he didn't want led to Neil's final decision.

If a tree falls in a forest and the only person around is deaf, did it even make a sound?

Maybe this is too far but his mom didn’t hear it until his father lead her to. She was always blind, deaf, and dumb to anything going on with Neil or anything at all until Mr. Perry went first. Just in quiet helpless denial.

rip to whoever the fuck rooms with knox. imagine seven kids from your class are all best buddies, they run around together and sneak out at night, and you? pointedly not invited.

on top of being roommates with arguably the most annoying of the seven you dont even get to break the rules and dick around in the forest at night.

Not to mention hearing him ramble about Chris every night, gotta be exhausting.

Sit down. Inhale. Exhale. The gun will wait. The lake will wait.
I assure you death will wait. Death has a lot of time. Death can attend to you tomorrow. Or next week.
You need not die today.
Stay here--through pout or pain or peskyness. Stay here. See what the news is going to be tomorrow.

Excerpt of "To the Young Who Want to Die" by Gwendolyn Brooks || Dead Poets Society (1989)

the fireplace makes it hard to keep quiet.

it dips neil's features into a golden softness that todd can't bear, not without spilling love and romance and words he can't take back. he takes a sip of cocoa just to have something stopping the words, because every fibre of him sings i love you i love you i love you.

"i can be secret as a dumb man", neil reads from the script in his lap. the fireplace makes shadows dance across his cheek. "i would have you think so, but on my allegianceβ€”mark you this, on my allegianceβ€”he is in love."

todd swallows his cocoa too quickly and burns his tongue. he's trying his hardest to keep quiet. neil glances over at him for a second - so quick you could have thought it was an accident, but it's not, todd knows it's not. his cheeks are warm under the sudden flash of pine brown.

their hands are inches from touching.

neil clears his throat, and there's a hint of pink in the tips of his ears. "he is in love.", he repeats. "with who?"

RSL being in Much Ado About Nothing makes this a canon event.

Happy thanksgiving to The poets cause they all hate their families, so after dinner with them they all leave early to be at the cave together and share leftovers over poems and laughs and β€œTHE SMALLEST BIT OF ALCOHOL I SWEAR ITS NOT A-LOT” from Charles dalton (he stole it when the dalton fam were distracted they’re rich they don’t pay attention to their kid come on) meeks gets his and pitts radio to tune into a local station playing Christmas music which Cameron and Knox state β€œit’s too early” but are promptly shot down by Charlie and Neil singing the lyrics awfully loud as well as Neil convincing Todd to sing awfully loud as well, and the night ends with the poets wine drunk on some expensive shit all laughing and leaving the cave together and after Charlie pipes up and asks β€œwhat’s everyone thankful for?” Everyone says materialistic things or at least something special to them such as an item or a moment in time or a good grade but Todd says he is thankful that he came to welton and met the poets as they have been the only true group to except him as he is… upon hearing this Neil smiles the biggest and proudly states that he’s thankful that Todd came to welton cause now he has the best roommate he could ever ask for :) they also talk the CRAZIEST shit on their families

HAPPY TURKEY DAY DUDES

We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life.Β
