In grand celebration of ACD’s birthday, the Red, White & Royal Box is officially live!

The RWRBox comes in two separate sizes, and each is chock full of FirstPrince jewelry, collectibles, and custom ephemera. Full details are available in the listing, but here’s a peek at each box, as well as a few of my favorite things.

  • Both boxes have decorative inside lids. The Curated Collection box sports a stylized “you and me and history” quote alongside firework art reminiscent of the collector’s edition cover, while the Complete Collection features a framed FirstPrince portrait by @ambiguouspenny, backed by architectural sketches of the White House and Kensington Palace and flanked with yellow and English tea roses.
  • (It is literally impossible to do that portrait justice in a photo. I keep trying, but it honestly has to be seen in person for full impact. The veladora art, meanwhile, has been my lockscreen for months.)
  • The canon ephemera was painstakingly recreated from real-life examples. There was no Wimbledon in 2020, obviously, but Alex’s gold-foiled pass is based on two recent tickets to the Royal Box. For Henry’s gold-embossed invite to the White House, I studied past State Dinner invitations until my eyes crossed (and went through four rounds of typesetting revisions to find the perfect Copperplate font). And as for his little souvenir from the Olympics… that was based on an actual ticket to a Rio 2016 diving event (not the finals, but still — I swear you can find anything on the internet if you just go far enough down the rabbit hole). Dates on the tickets are completely book accurate.
  • Both pieces of post-canon ephemera feature messages from Alex to Henry. Had to lean into my fanfic roots somehow.
  • Each bracelet comes with a set of standard charms by default (their initials, a wedding cake, a love letter, and either an aquamarine — their joint birthstone — or a silver heart and red, white, and royal blue glass pearls). Customization-wise, there are almost forty additional charms to choose from.
  • The silk ipê-amarelo blossoms are from vintage garlands made by a local vendor and sadly not available anymore. Which is tragic, since they’re absolutely perfect.
  • With a few exceptions (the trinket box, room spray bottle, noisemakers, and portrait frame) the non-print items included in each collection were all sourced from small businesses and independent creators.
  • The stash of vintage and antique Austens amassed for this is probably out of control. They’re all hardcover and in fantastic condition, and span all titles (though it is, admittedly, pretty P&P heavy). The latest is from 1980, but the earliest thus far is that amazing pocket edition of Sense & Sensibility, which is from 1913.
  • The linen & room spray is skin-safe, though (for me, at least) it’s much more an atmospheric scent than a wearable one. For the record, the notes are “bergamot, clean linen, fresh cut grass, roasted coffee, a dash of cinnamon, and a whisper of smoke.” One of these days I’ll stop spraying my room down with it every night before bed.
  • Henry’s journal is covered in grey suiting tweed and has a tiny silver fox foiled on the cover, which makes me irrationally happy every time I see it.
  • Alex’s (lurid teal) “Hoe Dameron” kimono is fully embroidered, not screen printed. It does indeed have pockets. :)

I know I’ve teased this project twice already, but after months of building it bit by bit, it’s amazing to have it done and out in the world. I love these boys, and I’m so excited for the fandom to see everything inside. And to anyone who actually does order a collection, i just want to say thank you here — as a multiracial AfroLatina with my own ally to questioning to queer journey, Alex and his story mean so much to me, and I loved getting to bring it to life in this way.

You can find the Red, White & Royal Box here, with a full breakdown of what’s included in each collection.

A portion of each sale benefits the Broadway Youth Center, which provides basic needs, health and social services, and gender-affirming care to LGBTQ+ young people here in Chicago experiencing homelessness and housing instability.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask away — my comments and inbox are open. :)

(And for my fellow Tarlos folks: you’re up next.)

There’s this way Henry has of listening to the erratic stream of consciousness that pours out of Alex’s mouth and answering with the clearest, crystallized truth that Alex has been trying to arrive at all along. If Alex’s head is a storm, Henry is the place lightning hits ground.

rules: talk about something creative you're working on of any kind.🚦 green: what is it about, what excited you about it, what sparked the idea? orange: slow down and share something from it: a photo, a few words, some more background info etc. red: what is the roadblock currently? what is one thing that is a necessary evil in making it?

Thanks to @liminalmemories21 @reyesstrand @bonheur-cafe for the tags, and especially to @heartstringsduet for coming up with this one, I think it’s a great creative kick in the butt.

To be honest, there are so many things going on that I can’t find the time to give them all the attention they deserve. The obvious is the continuing saga of the Red, White and Royal Box — I’ve been having a ball putting the first orders together, and am giddy to get them out to their respective owners. I’ve been plugging away at the last of esta noche this weekend, and the end finally feels in sight, which is going to give way to a FirstPrince one shot that I’ve been itching to work on for a while. But up first is the second Portmanteau project on deck, and as promised, this one’s for my fellow Tarlos folks.

It’s not an unhinged box of ship-inspired memorabilia, partly because procedurals like Lone Star are tough canons to draw that sort of inspiration from and partly because it will be a while before I have the energy (or the money) to put together another box like that (and when I do, it will probably be for Wicked). But I could never neglect my weewoo husbands. So, coming soon…

I still lost my mind a bit on this, however scaled back it may be. Case in point: there are 69 different charm options. That felt really fitting, somehow. 😂

Like I said, time. I have literally everything in house and ready to go, but it all still needs to be photographed. Plus the Google form, and the order insert, and the copy for the actual listing… And there is something special to go along with this one that I need to finish designing. Adulting sucks, y’all. Why must we toil away in a capitalist existence instead of being free of debts and responsibilities and able to do nothing but eat good food and get good sleep and fixate on our blorbos for a living? Le sigh.

At any rate, the plan is to launch on the boys’ anniversary. So, T-minus about a month, I guess!

TK STRAND & CARLOS REYES I 9-1-1: LONE STAR 1x02 'Yee-Haw' I 1x10 'Austin, We Have a Problem' I 5x12 'Homecoming'

inspired by @heartstringsduet and @goodways tags on this post: #the way he looks at TK is still exactly the same as when he was offering to flip on the light bar and sirens #and the way TK looks at Carlos is the same way he looked at him on the hood of a car

Oof, I'm rusty, y'all. Been living in FirstPrince Project land for too long. But writing is still happening, bunnies are still breeding, and (I swear) esta noche is almost done. And while I'm trying to wrap that up for good, not to mention pull together this one shot for The Brownstone's current fic event (because, for my damn ADHD, under-the-gun deadlines are my friend), have a bit more of the AU from this post, which — despite the tone of these snippets — still gives me the warm and fuzzies.

Henry shrugs, both his brows pulled together. "So, what, Alex? You assumed this unfortunate thing of me, and now you're bothered because I've somehow proved you wrong?" "I'm fucking bothered because, if you're all those things to everyone else, it means that you're only a dick to me." He watches the words break across Henry's annoyingly perfect face while the rest of him goes eerily still, and hopes whatever light bulb moment this man is currently having is distraction enough to have missed the way that Alex's voice had gone hoarse and pathetic right there at the end. "Sorry to rain on the shiny happy Henry parade," he says, sharper now. "I'd just love to know what I did to deserve being the one person on the face of the fucking planet you are actually an asshole to." Henry sighs, shoulders slumping as if he's both suddenly and eternally exhausted. "You haven't done anything, Alex." "Right." Alex nods, because he knew that, he did — that the span of a smile and an aborted handshake wasn't enough for even him to have done something to incite this level of Do Not Want. "So, just... me in general." There's a puff of air that's almost a laugh, as empty as the smile Henry shoots at the floor. "Quite." Alex shudders as the single syllable cracks through him like a whip. For a second, he can feel the impact of it in his face, the way it falls into stricken, stunned slackness, and can only imagine how it must look. Then he swallows, straightening his spine and smoothing out his features, and tries not to focus on how fast this whole thing had turned. How it had gone from happily calling Henry out to a haunting echo of a childhood past — standing in sandboxes and playgrounds and high school hallways, silently asking Why don't you like me? of everyone who shifted from possible friend to passing acquaintance. "You know what?" He turns on his heel, trying like hell not to seem like he's taking his toys and going home. "Fuck you, Fox."

art appreciation

Y’all, I know the definition of insanity, okay? But I could not rest until I found a way to show you just how fantastic @ambiguouspenny’s FirstPrince portrait is for the Red, White & Royal Box.

I mean…

Look at it.

Their locked eyes! Their perfect hair! Their soft fucking faces! It’s so good. I’ve been madly in love since they sent the first sketch. Which, for the record:

Yeah. I just can’t with Tay sometimes. And I mean that in the most loving, awestruck way possible. Beyond giddy they humored me and agreed to join me in this unhinged endeavor. So that’s how it started, and this is how it ended.

You can read more about the Red, White and Royal Box in the project tag, and find the full rundown (including the other piece from Tay that’s been my lock screen for literal months) in the Portmanteau shop listing.

Off to plot what I can talk Tay into next. 😘
