President Donald Trump on Monday threatened to impose a 25 percent tariff on China and any other countries that purchase oil or gas from Venezuela — escalating tensions with a Latin American country that has been a primary target of his administration’s sweeping deportation efforts. The tariff, set to take effect April 2, is aimed at countries that trade with Venezuela, which Trump also accused of sending violent criminals and gang members to the U.S.

I beg my kidnappers for a phone, swearing not to make any calls or texts, and they stare over my shoulder, holding a gun to my head as I use my newly-freed hand to post, "So do like, dudes just buy ropes and baklavas from the same store or what lmfao like a specialty Crime Store"

One of the kidnappers says "balaclavas" but it's muffled under the fabric. I ask them to repeat and they do, their voice raspy from disuse. "You wrote baklava, that's a pastry." The other kidnapper goes "stfu" and then after a pause goes "Why would you buy from a crime store"

Then they spit roast me

I didn't wanna say this but now that someone's left this kind of comment I have to be honest: Everyone else's tags are funny but this is the only person who understood my vision for this scenario

I was scrolling tumblr and came across a post discussing the 2025 April election, which included a site called smartvoting.ca that's supposed to... well, get you to vote in such a way as to keep the Conservatives out, depending on your riding's past statistics. Is there any merit to voting strategically in this election? The prospect of the Conservatives taking power is pretty bad. It's my first time voting in a federal election, I don't know if we can only select one candidate or if we can rank them.

no one follows the trees warning

You know the parable about how the foolish man built his house upon sand and the wise man built his house upon rock and it’s always about having a sturdy foundation well there is also the fact of location which is that the sand probably used to be rock except it’s been eroded to sediment because it’s a FUCKING FLOODPLAIN

I feel like a dumbass, but @rapidashmascot just revolutionised my understanding of that parable.

nature has never been binary

[Image Description: A drawing in muted jewel tones a stag beetle as seen from above. The left side is a deeper shade of dull purple with a long mandible. The right side is more black with a short mandible. There are shiny highlights and stars around the lovely bug. Text: : "It was never binary." ]

That a major social media platform that's been around for two decades going down without proper archiving would represent a greater loss of human culture than any library that's ever burned is undeniably true, but it's also a very funny observation to make about Tumblr in particular.

I just saw a story on AO3 tagged "pet p!ay"

TIK TOK MUST BE STOPPED BEFORE IT DESTROYS LANGUAGE

Ok, unless something's going on I'm not aware of (extremely likely), I gotta point out the term "Pet Play" is significantly older than Tik Tok, or most of its userbase for that matter.

Yeah, I'm not mad about using the term "pet play". That's a perfectly fine term. I'm mad because they didn't use that term: they used "pet p!ay", a censored version

Oh. Oh gawd I missed that. Objection withdrawn, that is objectively terrible.

To anybody who is new to posting on ao3, if you’re using a tag you have to use the correct spelling of that tag. People aren’t going to type in every version of a censored word to hide or look for your content

For everyone new to tumblr, the same rule applies to tumblr too.

You cannot censor your tags! Censored tags cannot be block or filtered. Censoring tags HARMS your audience, it does not protect them
