my favorite genre of fictional character is like "i am terrifying to almost everyone, i'm very good at killing, i can endure anything, i've become exceptionally good at playing into my reputation, and if you try to give me positive social interaction i will react with confusion and cower in a corner like an abused animal. and i may try to shoot you. but there is also a chance i may imprint on you like a feral dog receiving its first loving touch! good luck."

one thing that is superior about tumblr is that i haven't seen anyone (at least that i follow) participating in the chatgpt AI art trends that have been going around this week. it's so disappointing to see creators and photographers, people whose work and content have surely been stolen to train AI, hop on these trends. i know they don't think it's a big deal, but i just hate the idea that it's being normalized. anyways, i unfollowed a lot of people 👋

if tumblr shuts down you can find me on tumblr. ill still be here. they cant make me leave

ok but like. space shanties.

there’s a thing that should definitely be a thing in sci-fi.

my brain went straight to the ‘put him in the airlock ‘till he’s sober’ part of ‘what can you do with a drunken spacer’ and i never want to look back from this.

Phrygian-Chalcidian winged helmet with a spiked crest | c. 400 - 300 BCE | greece, classical period

"Behind each wing is a feather holder in the form of a coiled snake, an embossed eagle is above the gabled brow. In the centre of the brow is a partially preserved Gorgoneion motif. The hinged cheek pieces are adorned with images of the goddesses Nike and Artemis. This is a rare and ornate helmet that must have been the prize possession of a high status warrior."

characters who dig themselves out of their graves (whether literal or metaphorical) are at the top of the list. nothing beats a character who should have died but didn't and comes back to haunt their own life and the world around them, benevolent or violent it doesn't matter, it's enthralling either way

Thought I would give people a helpful visual as to how much money Studio Ghibli is valued at compared to OpenAI. It literally doesn't register on the chart it's so low. Now imagine individual artists that make like 20k a year if they're lucky. The narrative that AI companies are victims is a fucking crock of shit lmao.

Don't wait to write. Just start.

Don’t wait until your idea feels “good enough” to start writing. There is no such this as the perfect idea, or the perfect time.

The best stories often begin as messy, uncertain thoughts. Just a note in the margin of a notebook.

Start before you’re ready. The process of writing is how you figure out what you’re really trying to say. Clarity comes through the process, not before it.

there aren’t enough posts going around about the swedish cryptid known as the skvader which is a rabbit with pheasant wings and also a very good boy.

like this one dude just made a fake taxidermy and spread it around as a hoax for a good ass while and it lead to this really cool fantasy creature and i am genuinely dissapointed that it never gets used in anything

Rabbirds, by the amazing @tkingfisher/Ursula Vernon (source).

The lack of skvaders is particularly frustrating when you realize it forms the third point of a wonderful cryptid trifecta.

You got the jackalopes, which are rabbits with antlers.

And you got the wolpertingers, which are rabbits with antlers and wings.

And then… what? Do you escalate? That’s unbalanced, those two rabbit cryptids don’t have the same number of extra things, the wolpertinger is clearly the jackalope But More.

BUT with the skvader on the other side, balance is restored. Antler rabbit, winged rabbit, winged antler rabbit. It’s a classic Venn diagram of imaginary lapine beasts, and it’s only complete if you acknowledge the fucking skvader.

Good thing Ursula’s got our back, at least.

This is a really excellent point and I applaud your advancements in Cryptid Theory.

Gentleman, if I might add:

yes you may add this

I think balance in crypdids is VERY IMPORTANT.

You should write the most niche, indulgent fiction that appeals to you specifically, because it will be much more artistically authentic and valuable than corporate slop that has been focus tested to death to appeal to the widest audience possible.

Write for yourself and you will always be making authentic art that has an uncompromised vision, and you will gain an audience that appreciates that.

It’s Not a Plot Hole, It’s Foreshadowing

vs.

It’s Not a Plot Hole, It’s Just Something That They Opted Not to Spoon-feed You Because It Would Be Obvious If You Thought About It For 20 Seconds

vs.

It May Be a Plot Hole, But It Still Works In Terms of the Story’s Themes and Character Logic

vs.

Okay, It Is a Plot Hole, What Are You Going to Do, Cry about It?

vs.

All Works of Fiction Represent Constructed Realities and by Demanding a Lack of Plot Holes, You Are Improperly Importing the Rules of Objective Reality into a Subjective Creation that Must Be Judged Primarily on Its Aesthetic Merits

vs.

Dude, Just Come-up With a Headcanon Like A Normal Human Being

vs.

Is It Really a Plot Hole, or Are the Characters Just Not Making the Choices You Want Them To?

There is a crack in everything, that’s how the fanfic gets in

(Smiling at that last one)
