This paper focuses on pinpointing the existence of a relationship between the variables family resilience, cognitive flexibility and parents’ transformative learning experiences. Findings (after applying the questionnaire to 100 parents) show a significant correlation between perceived transformative learning and family resilience, but cognitive flexibility does not associate with family resilience (though it does correlate with resilience in general) or with parents’ transformative learning in their relationship with the child. Giving a meaning to the problematic experience is a common point between the variables that correlate positively.

Based on reviews of communication literature, the present paper intends to analyze the functions of mass media from the theoretical points of view. It is established through the findings that mass media plays a significant role in modern society. They bring about a general diffusion of knowledge about life in the world today, thus influencing many aspects of our social, political and economic patterns. Mass media has certain important functions to perform which include influencing public opinion, determining the political agenda, providing a link between the government and the people, acting as a government watchdog, and affecting socialization, entertainment, educating the masses, and mobilization as well.

Advertising is a form of communication that through the mobilizing power of words and images in the human consciousness, trying to seduce, influence and push anonymously consumer to an unnecessary over-consumption. Because in his approach, advertising uses various means of persuasion and influence, it is often associated or confused with three types of discursive practices of public character, making up a terminological triangle extremely complex and controversial: propaganda, persuasion, manipulation. This flagrant confusion is caused on the one hand by ignorance and on the other hand by the fact that advertising, as well as propaganda, persuasion or manipulation, seeks "mental directing of the masses", but obviously with different means and ends. The article provides a number of issues involved in defining manipulation, because both in the current language as in the specialty literature, the manipulation notion is used with multiple significations, often contradictory ones, and that it's not firmly delimited by other notions from the same sphere, like persuasion or propaganda. The aim of the article will be, in the end, removing ambiguity that surrounds this concept and offering a better understanding of its very real effects on human lives. We advance and sustain the hypothesis that manipulation is an illegitimate process, justified by the structure of the human conscience and by the mechanisms of the social life. In addition, the paper provides a concrete example of manipulation of public through advertising contracts offered by Roşia Montană Gold Corporation. Finally conclusions were outlined.
