Vocational Course DEI MTP101_U5 Block Printing

2012, DEI Modular Course in Textile Design, Block Printing

"Block Printing is the process of using an object to make an inked impression upon a plain surface. It is one of the oldest and most enjoyable of all the crafts and has given color and pattern to paper, cloth, and other surfaces for nearly 4,000 years. Today the process is essentially the same. As it is simple and impressive, it is ideal for the beginner. "

Lecturer, Textile Design, DEI Ms. Dheeraj Parashar Preface The Block printing with beautiful and highly aesthetic styles have evolved over a number of years. The various techniques of creating unique designs on textiles go back to the prehistoric times. Various styles using these techniques were developed by our ancestors. The advent of mechanization has been largely responsible for reducing the interest of hand Block printing. A skill based creative home craft, which can easily be learnt, developed and executed by one and all, it takes very little space and investment with high returns. Block printing, a Modular vocational skill based craft has been divided in 3 courses having five units each, The first Course MTP101 deals with Introduction to Block printing with 2nd course MTP102 dealing in design and visualization of block printing the third and the final course MTP103 deals in execution with value additions. The learning material has been presented in a self-instructional mode with a number of questions and assignments included in each lesson. These will assist the student in self-learning and in understanding the subject matter. Highly experienced academicians and field workers have given their inputs. Quality is something we at DEI are very particular about. The e-lessons (DVDs) are an integral part of the teaching-learning process in the Modular courses of Distance Education. I am highly thankful to the untyring efforts of all our students, staff of Textile Design, distance education center, Computer center DEI, who have helped us in timely execution of various courses of Textiles. It is with great joy that I thank all the contributors generously giving their time and knowledge. Each contributor can take credit for its success; none is responsible for its inadequacies; all have my profound gratitude.
