Color Harmony

Pipilotti Rist, contemporary visual artist, is recognizable
by combining psychedelic colors, subtle music and care
for the comfort of her recipients perceptible in arrangements
of her exhibitions with provocative activities undertaken
by the characters in her movies. The paper providing a proposal of interpretation of one of her audio-video installations
entitled Ever is Over All  bases on the thesis, that formal harmony in art enables the viewer to receive the content repressed by culture. It also aims to introduce my concept
of “rainbow harmony”, experience of delightful (“harmonious”) coexistence of intensified and “purified” colors in visual perception and artistic visual performances as a phenomenon culturally rooted, which analyzed in context of contemporary thought evokes problematics of  subconscious structures
of imagination and their interactions with cultural assumptions.

Research has shown that musical training is associated with a greater ability to aurally connect chord progressions to specific pieces of music. However, it is unclear what specific aspects of musical training contribute to that ability. The present study investigated the effects of various aspects of professional and amateur jazz musicians’ formal training and work with harmony on their ability to identify well-known jazz standards from chord progressions. For participants who were able to identify songs from commercial recordings in this experiment, general long-term involvement with activities believed to increase awareness of harmony, such as playing a harmonic instrument, playing chords by ear, and transcribing harmonic progressions was often not enough to enable them to identify songs from their chord progressions alone. Color preference for the interior of a bedroom of Le Corbusier's Swiss Pavilion was studied using 1931 Salubra color keyboards in a cross-cultural analysis. Results indicate that students from architecture and interior design slightly dislike or are indifferent to Le Corbusier color combinations and prefer pale and low saturated colors for interior architecture. The least preferred colors belong to green and brown hues. Scarce significant gender differences are found that follow a stereotyped tendency, with females preferring pinks, light blues and light greens, while males vivid oranges and Vermilions. Near Easterners are significantly more likely to green colors, while Western Europeans to dark greys. These data indicate that not only hue, but also value and saturation are important color features to inform preference for interior architecture.

Color selection plays a vitally important role in creating impressions of individuals or companies. This is largely because colors have sensibility aspects, which relate, in part, to images and, in part, to associations. Based on theories of color harmony and sensibility ergonomics, we have developed quantitative and systematic metrics for color images. In this paper, we suggest a color coordinate system that supports color analysis and color harmony functions using color images, which can be captured by corresponding adjectival words. We focus on a prototype system for graphical logo design to exemplify our concepts. The system can be applied to a wide variety of design domains.

The relationship between Christian and Muslim communities in Indonesia that are highlighted and published over the past 40 years gives a confusing picture. One article by a Muslim writer in 1962 on the significant contribution made by the Catholic Church to the cause of independence in West Irian reflects the generally good mutual relationships between the two religious communities. The expression of Islam in Indonesia has been conspicuously moderate, tolerant, and progressive. But the harmony was not uninterrupted. Conflicts between the two communities occurred periodically.

The analysis of this study aims to provide an objective description and suggest to be able to strengthen and optimize related to the regulation of financial institutions or Islamic banking. In this case, the researcher uses a normative juridical method whose research refers to the rules or regulations of law as reference data which is analyzed with a qualitative description pattern. And the result is that this research illustrates that legal regulations play a role in the development, empowerment and establishment of the regulation of Islamic economic or financial institutions. The implication of study is the creation of progress and synchronization or correlation between financial institutions or Islamic banking in Indonesia. The harmony of regulations and the harmony of legal regulations must have an impact on public trust and have an impact on improving service facilities, protection for the community or customers, economic actors and even Islamic financial institutions themselves.

The Principle of Harmony originally stated in the author's book Natural Logic is fine-tuned here in the way obviously required in order to bar an interesting would-be counterexample furnished by Crispin Wright, and to stave off any more of the same. The author's earlier trio of attempts to formulate the principle had clearly hit the right note, without attaching too many strings. The past decades of human existence were draped with varied experiences: some serene and others horrifying. Writers make efforts as the conscience of humanity, to speak to the different human experiences that dawned on the world. In the face of horrifying histories and current international upheavals, some writers call for reconciliation and universal harmony. This paper explores how two contemporary Ghanaian poets try to advocate global coexistence in their works as well as suggest processes of healing and reconciliation worldwide. This study is carried out to add to the corpus of work on universal harmony, especially from the African/Ghanaian writing/cultural worldview. This study investigates harmony in two-colour combinations in order to develop a quantitative model. A total of 1431 colour pairs were used as stimuli in a psychophysical experiment for the visual assessment of harmony. These colour pairs were generated using 54 colours selected systematically from CIELAB colour space. During the experiment, observers were presented with colour pairs displayed individually against a medium gray background on a cathode ray tube monitor in a darkened room. Colour harmony was assessed for each colour pair using a 10-category scale ranging from “extremely harmonious” to “extremely disharmonious.” The experimental results showed a general pattern of two-colour harmony, from which a quantitative model was developed and principles for creating harmony were derived. This model was tested using an independent psychophysical data set and the results showed satisfactory performance for model prediction. The study also discusses critical issues including the definition of colour harmony, the relationship between harmony and pleasantness, and the relationship between harmony and order in colour. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
