Water is an essential part of our lives; we need it to survive, for cleaning and transportation, and it is the habitat for many aquatic animals, some of which humans consume. Water contaminated with heavy metals has serious negative effects on health and the ecosystem. Concentrations of heavy metals are believed to influence the distribution of certain crustaceans, fish and other marine and freshwater animals. The World Health Organization (WHO) has stipulated the level of heavy metals allowed in drinking water, but due to ever increasing levels of knowledge regarding the effects of heavy metals the stipulated levels are constantly changing to preserve our health.

Authors debate on the deep changes happpening in the world of cataloguing, and maintain that these changes need to be organized. They debate on new OPAC, on FRBR, on the Principles of Paris and on the new International Cataloguing Principles (ICP), on AACR2, on Resource Description and Access (RDA), and on ISBD. In their opinion, ISBD are mainly bibliographic analysis, not a presentation of descriptive data.

The paper comprehends an impending accost of intensifying biometric stationed authentication protocol(BSAP) bestowing meta-heuristic genetic algorithm for securing MANET. Biometric authentication using fingerprint, facial, iris scan, voice recognition etc. have gain a lot of importance in recent years to provide security in MANET. Biometrics are more advantageous and secure as compared to prevailing data security techniques like password or token mechanisms. A higher level of security is achieved in our impending approach using genetic algorithm to overcome the security and privacy concerns that exist in biometric technology. The foremost requirement of our protocol is to overcome various data attacks such as wormhole, cache poisoning, invisible node attack etc. that are confronted by MANET and make the network more secure.

The main problem hindering proper analysis and documentation of archaeological and his-torical textiles is the lack of co-operation between scientists dealing with different aspects of these objects – archaeological, artistic, historical and technological. The last one in-cludes the examining of manufacturing methods and analysis of the raw material and dyes used by chemical and physicochemical analysis methods, which is fundamental for proper identification of the object, as well as its origin and dating. The methods include: SEM, ICP, ATR/FTIR and AAS for determination of the raw material and other components of the object, the archaeological environment, analysis of the biodeterioration of archaeological textiles, as well as HPLC for analysis of the colour. Human detection and tracking has been a prominent research area for several scientists around the globe. State of the art algorithms have been implemented, refined and accelerated to significantly improve the detection rate and eliminate false positives. While 2D approaches are well investigated, 3D human detection and tracking is still an unexplored research field. In both 2D/3D cases, introducing a multi camera system could vastly expand the accuracy and confidence of the tracking process. Within this work, a quality evaluation is performed on a multi RGB-D camera indoor tracking system for examining how camera calibration and pose can affect the quality of human tracks in the scene, independently from the detection and tracking approach used. After performing a calibration step on every Kinect sensor, state of the art single camera pose estimators were evaluated for checking how good the quality of the poses is estimated using planar objects such as an ordinate chessboard. With this information, a bundle block adjustment and ICP were performed for verifying the accuracy of the single pose estimators in a multi camera configuration system. Results have shown that single camera estimators provide high accuracy results of less than half a pixel forcing the bundle to converge after very few iterations. In relation to ICP, relative information between cloud pairs is more or less preserved giving a low score of fitting between concatenated pairs. Finally, sensor calibration proved to be an essential step for achieving maximum accuracy in the generated point clouds, and therefore in the accuracy of the produced 3D trajectories, from each sensor.

Neuromonitoring can be used to observe intracranial pathological conditions in neurointensive care; however, use of intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring is low in Japan. In this study, we retrospectively investigated the effects of ICP monitoring in the treatment of severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), using data from the Japan Neurotrauma Data Bank (JNTDB). The study was conducted in 1091 subjects enrolled in the JNTDB (Project 2009) from July 2009 to June 2011. The subjects were divided into those treated with and treated without ICP monitoring in intensive care for severe TBI. Age at admission, sex, level of consciousness (Glasgow Coma Scale [GCS] score), pupillary findings, findings on head CT, treatment, and outcome were compared between these groups. The subjects were also classified into two groups based on the outcome. Relationships among patient background factors, including ICP and clinical outcome were evaluated. The rate of ICP monitoring in treatment of severe TBI was 28%. Therapies were performed aggressively in the ICP monitoring group, and this group had a significant reduction in mortality, but no increase in the favorable outcome rate. In multi-variate analysis, age, GCS, pupillary abnormalities, perimesencephalic cistern disappearance or compression, and ICP were associated with a favorable outcome, but the therapeutic method did not affect outcome. We conclude that ICP monitoring and management of ICP are both important for management and care of severe TBI. However, current therapies do not control ICP sufficiently, and more effective therapies are needed.

Forward osmosis (FO) has attracted wide attention in recent years. However, the FO performance may be restricted due to internal concentration polarization (ICP) and fast fouling propensity that occurs in the membrane sublayer. Particularly, these problems significantly affect the membrane performance when treating highly contaminated oily wastewater. Recently, double-skinned flat sheet cellulose acetate (CA) membranes consisting of two selective skins via the phase inversion method have demonstrated less ICP and fouling propensity over typical single-skinned membranes. However, these membranes exhibit low water fluxes of <12 LMH under 2 M NaCl draw solution. Therefore, a novel double-skinned FO membrane with a high water flux has been aimed for in this study for emulsified oil−water treatment. The double-skinned FO membrane comprises a fully porous sublayer sandwiched between (i) a truly dense skin for salt rejection and (ii) a fairly loose dense skin for emulsified oil particle rejection. The former dense skin is a polyamide synthesized via interfacial polymerization, while the latter one is a selfassembled sulfonated pentablock copolymer (Nexar copolymer) layer. The resultant double-skinned membrane exhibits a high water flux of 17.2 LMH and a low reverse salt transport of 4.85 gMH using 0.5 M NaCl as the draw solution and DI water as the feed. The double-skinned membrane outperforms the single-skinned membrane with much lower fouling propensity for emulsified oil−water separation.
