Say it ain’t so! We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but after seven weeks of dating, Love Island UK’s Joey Essex, 34, and Jessy Potts, 25, have decided to call it quits and end their relationship.

The pair, who met on the most recent series of the ITV2 dating show, announced in a joint statement to The Sun that they are no longer together but hope to remain friends.

Joey told the publication the following: “Unfortunately, we have decided to call an end to the relationship, but I hope we can continue to be friends. I truly wish Jessy the very best with whatever she does in the future.”

Jessy, for her part, added that she was excited for the opportunities to come, saying, “I appreciate the Love Island experience I had with Joey—we tried to make it work, but it wasn’t to be. I’m so grateful to everyone who supported us and look forward to all of the exciting opportunities ahead.”

A reminder that Joey shocked the whole nation when he appeared on Love Island season 11 this summer. He initially coupled up with Samantha Kenny, before moving on to bombshell Grace Jackson, whom he previously had history with outside the villa.

But once Jessy entered the show shortly before Casa Amor, he set his sights on her and they became each other’s top priority almost instantly. The two remained strong up until the final week of the series, when they were voted off by their fellow and former Islanders, who questioned the strength of their relationship.

They continued dating on the outside and most recently attended the National Television Awards together just last week. However, it clearly wasn’t meant to be.

FYI, since the end of season 11, a number of the couples from the series have also confirmed their splits, including most recently Matilda Draper and Sean Stone, and Harriett Blackmore and Ronnie Vint.

Here’s hoping both Joey and Jessy are doing okay following the breakup.
