Bridget Jones star Leo Woodall has admitted that he broke down in tears reading the script of the new film.

The actor, 28, has taken on the role of Roxster McDuff in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.

On Monday morning the One Day star appeared on ITV's Lorraine alongside co-stars Renée Zellweger, 55, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, 47, to talk about the new blockbuster.

Interviewer Lucie Cave, 52, was keen to know if the stars got emotional when they eventually got to read what they were going to be acting out for the movie.

One Day star Leo confessed: 'I got a little emotional, yeah, I did. I wasn’t expecting it from a Bridget script. But it did get me!'

Meanwhile Renée admitted: 'Oh 100 percent. Oh yeah, throughout the thing.'

Fans don't have long to wait until the movie is on our screens.

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy will be released on February 13.

It stars Renee as Bridget Jones, Hugh Grant as Daniel Cleaver, Emma Thompson as Doctor Rawlings and  Chiwetel as Mr. Wallaker.

The likes of Colin Firth, Jim Broadbent, Gemma Jones, Isla Fisher and Nico Parker are also in the film.

It is the sequel to Bridget Jones's Baby which was released in 2016.

In the new film, Leo's alter-ego explores a relationship with an older woman, which has led him on to talk about his opinion on the matter.

The star told Stellar Magazine: 'When two people find the connection, why shouldn't they see where it goes without judgment?

'Both dynamics should be equally normalised.'

During the chat with Lucie, Renee admitted that Bridget is flattered by the younger generation when she dates 29-year-old Roxster.

Renée confessed: 'I mean look at the guy come on! he's so warm and charming and lovely, and kind! so talented.

'Come on the best job in the world!'

'It's a good thing that we're getting the reverse.

'Because it's not uncommon – it's just not portrayed much in movies.'

Leo shot to fame in 2022 when he took on the role of Jack in The White Lotus.

Before that he starred in Vampire Academy and Holby City.  But more recently the star played characters in Citadel and Prime Target.

Arguably he is best known for playing Dexter Mayhew in BBC's One Day.

The heart-throb recently revealed what it felt like being 'catapulted' to fame

Speaking to The Radio Times, Leo said: 'It's terrifying in a lot of ways.

'Because it was a relatively quick turnaround, suddenly I was on these big sets and then doing photoshoots and events and interviews.

'The filming, I'm getting more comfortable with and it's becoming my safe haven.'

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
