      CHAPTER 1

      Meredith

      I was baffled about Anna leaving the club the other night, but it's my own fault. I was the one who encouraged her to keep pursuing this guy. And now? I can see why she was willing to. He's smoking hot!

      And because she pursued him? I'm going to learn about a whole new side of me that I never knew existed.

      Anna invited me over to her boyfriend’s house for a friendly dinner. That's how it all started.

      Now, I'm sitting in this hot guy's living room listening to him talk to another hot guy about interesting botany tips.

      Did I say interesting? No, I mean boring. Holy shit, the conversation is excruciating. But Anna’s boyfriend apparently loves gardening.

      Anna nudges me, then gestures with her eyes towards hot guy number two. Apparently, she's in the mood to be matchmaker tonight. It's both adorable and annoying.

      I'm gonna run to the store real quick, she says out of nowhere. You guys want anything?

      The two hot men both glance at each other, confused. Then, Anna adds, You should come with me, babe.

      Hot guy number one, a.k.a. Jake, a.k.a. my bestie's boyfriend, becomes befuddled, raising his eyebrows and showing an increase in his confusion to the point that he freezes up for half a second. Finally, he mutters, Me?

      Yes, you, Anna emphasizes.

      But I'm the host. I can't just abandon my guests and- oh!...

      Realization dawns on him and he nods slowly. Sure, I'll come with you.

      On their way out, Anna flashes a smirk at me that I can read loud and clear, Get to know him while we're gone and don't be shy, it says.

      Well, my shyness comes and goes. If I'm out at a dance club, dressed like I wanna get laid, then I'm not shy at all.

      Sitting in a stranger's living room as the owner of the place leaves to run an errand, leaving me alone with some sexy stranger? Yeah, my shyness is in overdrive. There aren't any dimmed lights or loud music to drown out my insecurity here. I'm a heavy, heavy girl, and my insecurity sometimes completely takes over, making me bottle up and not want to speak much.

      I watch as the two of them leave, feeling awkward and uncomfortable. But this stranger doesn't seem to mind.

      You want something to drink? he asks. I take in his casual blue jeans and black Polo shirt with his large biceps poking out. I have to divert my attention quickly before he notices.

      Yeah, sure, I say. I'll take a drink.

      He chuckles and brushes light-colored hair away from his brow. His gray-blue eyes are like thunderclouds,
