IF 2020 WAS A BOOK
I demand a refund.
The worst ending to the most built up series in history.
I hated this series from books 1-3 and then, admittedly with some group fangirling at RHR, it sucked me in. It peaked at book 5/6 and then it was all downhill.
If you’re a fan of TVD then you’ve already read this book and either agree with me, or want to hurt me. So I’ll not go into the details of why I think this was a total rush job.
BL got her pay check and was probably too busy working on spin offs from the 10,000 useless secondary characters (who all got a POV in this book) to actually put some effort in here.
About as much effort as I put into this review.

Lol I’m not sure we were reading the same book Daisy! I should have reread 8 - it was so long I had forgotten who secondary characters even were. Not much recap done in the book to refresh my memory!
I did not like #2, #6 and #8 as much as the others. 8 was very hectic and rushed. 9 was okay for me about the storyline. I think she should have left the dying and resurrection out and she should have wrote it longer than the actual page count and dissected the friendship turns relationship stuff much more. I still miss Jardis motives for her actions.
I think I was so happy with book 9 because I really expect an awful book. I should reread the 8th and 9th book. 😉

I think my favourite overall was New Orleans and the Camping trip... remember the good old days when a whole book revolved around a 3 day camping trip lol!
Let’s not forget how Lexi did NOTHING this book but run around and talk to the guys. Her “action” comprised of the last 10% of the book and even then, I was like, “really? Ice and flame balls? How the hell did you manage that shit?” I think the most frustrating part of this terdfest was that this series carried so much potential. So much was built in to these characters and their incredible nuance that reading them felt like crawling into their skin (and yes, sometimes that was annoying and wanted things to speed up a bit). BUT, in this book, the “shmoopy” and “Alli girl” and “Tough Guy” all fell flat—like jokes that had peaked several years ago. Then when Jess started throwing a bitch-fit about “Who is Lexi dating OMG YOU WHORE!” Instant eye roll. Aren’t we past the bullying, too?
You’re review really does explain my own frustrations with this slap dash race to the finish line. The sprit of the first 7 books was destroyed
Completely agree. This book felt so forced to finish the series and added in so much extra nonsense. I have not and will not read her other series BoS. All the extra points of view were useless. I’m regretting this purchase so hard.
I completely agree, I was looking forward to reading this and finally getting a happy and peaceful ending...but we all know by now what a mess this was.
@Cayla @Opal I knew I wouldn’t be the only one angry at this ending! At least we can vent together, I still can’t believe that’s it all over. The pressure is really on for Bound Spirit now, HA Wills better not let us down
This. It was a waste of time to read. It’s maybe worse for me though because I LOVED the early books and was so invested in these characters. I started having doubts around book 5 or 6, but this? Rushed, incoherent, and pointless.

I remember reading somewhere that this series was going to have 15 books, and was really surprised when the blurb for this book said "Join us for the thrilling conclusion to The Veil Diaries". So, I suppose what was meant to be written in at least
6 more books was compressed into one book in an effort to complete the series, therefore resulting in this mess. Pity. I really loved this series until the 7th book...even the 8th book seemed a little harried.

Omg yes. I have such high hopes for HA Wills and The Bound Spirit. I am hopeful because Wills takes her time and releases boos at her own pace, so here’s hoping she doesn’t feel the need to release just because fans are hounding her or she had an original release date.
These comments remind me of something I once said to you Gaby (and in a group thread): I normally don’t like series longer than three books, because I think (and feel) if an author can’t finish a story with three books, then the author won‘t finish with more books. And the only exception so far was TVD, because even after book5 she had ideas going.
But now - even though I am not as disappointed as you are - I have to rethink this. I think 15 book was a guess from an inexperienced author who stated this and now everybody is holding her to it.

It did come as a total shock when it ended after 9 books! I’m in total agreement with you @Cory @Cayla @Opal @Daisy. We were all in it for the long haul, expecting that the slow burn and long drawn out plot arc would come to some amazing fruition! We thought she had some master plan but now I wonder if she was winging it all along.
Even more annoying is nothing but the first book was on KU and we were into it enough to spend money on them.
I think the rest of the rating on this speak for themselves. Fans are not happy

I just finished and completely agree. What a rushed story and a complete let down. When it was over I was genuinely angry.

What I found most disappointing was just how slow the romance was (slower than a snail travelling by tortoise).
I know it was supposed to be a slow-burn rh but I definitely did not expect that. Still, I was pacified by the fact that there would at least be a few more books, but we all know how that hope ended up. By now, I don't even see the point in ranting about this book series.

We just needed to vent our frustrations here! Every time I read another disappointed comment on here it makes me mad all over again. We deserved more
I’m in full agreement. Ha - “If 2020 was a book” a absolutely yes - completely true.
I’m forever salty - I left her readers group - I don’t even care what she does anymore. She should’ve sat on that last book until it at least had the same silly poor grammar charm the others one had. I swear to god a ghost writer wrote that - I don’t even think she did. She just handed them the cliff notes.

Hey gals!
Reading this comment I am happy that I was on a „happy drug“ or something 😂, when I read it, because I became disappointed of the last book, after I finished and liked most of it. But after reading comments and reviews I must say I totally see your points. And I am sad that you never felt happy with the ending. I at least had a day where I felt good! Okay after that it was a down slide. 😐

Lol Ghost writer may actually be a good explanation..
I wonder where all the 5 star reviews are even coming from. @Patrons review is so much better than mine, I really felt the same as she did and she says it better! Lol @ Daisy probably just the rose tinted glasses for a day. We were all pretty hyped to get our hands on this!
