Signing onto a movie as visually stimulating as Wicked means that you essentially have a built-in press tour wardrobe strategy. Method dressing was never simpler. So, it’s no surprise that Wicked’s marquee stars—Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande—have been trotting out respective green and pink looks for months as a nod to their characters, the green-skinned witch Elphaba and pink-loving witch Glinda. However, at the Mexico City premiere for Wicked: Part One, the duo dropped the color theme for outfits that had a less on-the-nose approach.
Grande looked like the embodiment of magic itself in a white fairytale ball gown with an opalescent sheen to it. Culled from Atelier Versace, the strapless dress featured a plunging V-shaped neckline that grazed the center of her abdomen. A corseted bodice sunk into a swirl of foamy and iridescent fabric that was draped all over the skirt, a seeming nod to Glinda's iconic bubble dress. She finished off the look with a diamond necklace and white platform heels.
As for Erivo, the Tony Award-winning actor made a statement in an artful Thom Browne ensemble. The one-of-a-kind look featured a sparkly bodycon dress with exaggerated hips and buttons fastened all the way down the center. But, the real showstopper came in the form of the trompe l’oeil hooded bolero, which included a curled hand with a razor-sharp manicure attached to each shoulder. Erivo herself sported her usual extravagant manicure, wearing a style that featured a sparkly red-and-black design; she further accessorized with blue pendant earrings, diamond-encrusted rings, and black platform heels.
