CBS‘ single-camera comedy pilot Dmv has added Alex Tarrant (NCIS: Hawai’i), Tony Cavalero (The Righteous Gemstones) and Gigi Zumbado (Doctor Odyssey) in series regular roles.
They join the previously announced cast of Tim Meadows, Harriet Dyer and Molly Kearney.
Written by Dana Klein based on author Katherine Heiny’s short story, Dmv is a workplace comedy set at the place everyone dreads going most: the Dmv. Our quirky and lovable characters are making minimum wage, doing a thankless job where customers are annoyed before they even walk in the door. Good thing they have each other.
Tarrant will play “Noa,” a dreamy, charismatic, golden boy who seems destined for much greater things than working at the Dmv. He is good at everything and never gets into awkward situations. A star surfer, he lives the “Pura Vida” life and doesn’t sweat the small stuff.
Cavalero will play “Vic,” who, before landing at the Dmv,...

The beauty of a show receiving a second season is seeing how the writers — having firmly established their characters and world — broaden the show to encompass more. Some shows falter; “Colin from Accounts” soared.
Nowhere is that better expressed than in the plotlines concocted for the friends and family of Gordon (co-creator Patrick Brammall) and Ashley (co-creator Harriet Dyer), both of whom have the requisite oddballs in their lives who, in typical “Colin from Accounts” fashion, are tweaked just enough to be both over-the-top and recognizably human. If Ashley’s mother, Lynelle (Helen Thomson), served as a foil to her daughter (and a symbol of how Ashley became who she is) in Season 1, she gets a truly wild plot in Season 2 that allows both character and actor to step into the spotlight. Literally, when Lynelle takes centerstage for the Episode 7 benefit for Women Against Women Against Men (Wawam for short...

Believe it or not, Season 2 of “Colin from Accounts” initially ended on an even bleaker note.
Not that the current ending isn’t already a heartbreaker. Swept up in wedding fever, Gordon abruptly proposes to Ashley on the dance floor. And she doesn’t say yes, leaving them in an awkward place, relationship-wise, and him in a humiliated position in the middle of a dance floor. Was there ever a question of ending the season on such a dire note?
“It was more dire,” co-star and co-creator Harriet Dyer told IndieWire.
“It was just Gordon and Ashley in the wide after he proposed,” co-star and co-creator Patrick Brammall said. “So after [Gordon] puts the music back on — and it was still ‘Slice of Heaven’ — it’s a wide frame. They’re like on an island and you’re like, ‘Oh, they’re fucking dead.’ And they’re trying to dance and it’s not working.

Prime Video is getting in on the sports romance trend, ordering a series based on author Elle Kennedy’s popular Off Campus romance novels.
The first season will be based on the first book, The Deal, and is described as a college-set romantic drama that “follows the unlikely romance between a wry, hockey-hating music major and Briar University’s playboy star center. The series depicts the elite ice hockey team, and the women in their lives, as they grapple with love, heartbreak, and self-discovery—forging deep friendships and enduring bonds while navigating the complexities that come with transitioning into adulthood.

‘Colin From Accounts’ Stars on How That Messy Finale Wedding Proposal May or May Not Be Catastrophic
As Paramount+’s “Colin From Accounts” winds down its Season 2 with the finale episode “Speedy Susans,” Gordon (Patrick Brammall) and Ashley (Harriet Dyer) are actually in a pretty good place. Figuratively, not literally: They’re technically at the wedding of Ashley’s best friend Megan (Emma Harvie) and her fiancé Rumi (Virginia Gay), who is most certainly not a fan of Gordon.
But that’s fine, Ashley is the one in pain, after her wisdom teeth are removed. Ashley nonetheless tries to fulfill her job as Maid of Honor by masking her swollen face with an ill-advised spray tan. It’s an uncomfortable day for both, but things get better at the reception. In a moment of tenderness, both Gordon and Ashley say “I love you” for the first time to one another. And it seems like Season 2 is going to end on an upbeat note for them.

[This story contains spoilers from Colin From Accounts season two’s finale.]
Watching Paramount+’s Colin From Accounts, you might think a certain scene just can’t be real. That it’s too awkward to be a real thing that happened.
But most of the show’s moments derive from friends and family members of creators, showrunners and stars Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall, who are also married in real life.
“Oftentimes you can’t make this shit up,” Brammall tells The Hollywood Reporter when talking about the second season of the critically acclaimed comedy show. “Like, humans are very strange, contrary creatures.”
Season two, which dropped all episodes on Paramount+ on Thursday, continues to follow Ashley (Dyer) and Gordon (Brammall) in their relationship after they were somewhat forced together in season one after they both looked after a dog who was hit by Gordon’s car. Dealing with Ashley and Gordon’s families as well as navigating friendships with the show’s supporting characters,...

Paging elder millennial women everywhere! Joshua Jackson, the beloved actor formerly known as Charlie Conway and Pacey Witter, fronts this sexy new medical drama from executive producer Ryan Murphy. Set aboard a luxury ocean liner, the ABC procedural — the first episode of which is now streaming on Hulu — follows Jackson’s Dr. Max Bankman as he saves lives and deftly handles various medical cases on the high seas with the help of his small but mighty crew, portrayed by Phillipa Soo and Sean Teale. Elsewhere, Don Johnson stars as the ship’s captain (and looks good doing it). Each week is a new cruise, with a different theme, which keeps things exciting and fresh. All of this to say: Network TV is back, baby, and “Doctor Odyssey” is the awards contender to watch this weekend.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Colin From Accounts, Season 2.] Colin From Accounts Season 2 has officially dropped stateside on Paramount+, and as we take in the latest laughs, we can’t help but wonder what’s next for Gordon and Ashley, the couple played by real-life spouses, series co-creators, and writers Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer. While Season 1 chronicled the start of their relationship, Season 2 picked up with the growing pains that accompany a new romance as these otherwise strangers began to dig deeper into each other’s personal lives. As fans will recall, the duo met when medical student Ashley flashed microbrewery proprietor Gordon, causing him to hit the show’s titular pup, Colin. Brought together by the high-needs dog, Ashley and Gordon’s situation is anything but conventional, and Season 2 continued to prove that point. Below, Brammall and Dyer open up about Season 2’s cliffhanger ending and where it could take fans in a potential third season ...

Harriet Dyer has been cast in the CBS comedy pilot “Dmv,” Variety has learned.
Dyer joins previously announced cast member Tim Meadows in the single-cam pilot, which was ordered at CBS back in August. The pilot is based on a short story by Katherine Heiny. The official logline states that the show is “set at the place everyone dreads going most: the Dmv. Our quirky and lovable characters are making minimum wage, doing a thankless job where customers are annoyed before they even walk in the door. Good thing they have each other.”
Dyer will play Colette, who is described as “the driving examiner with a huge heart. Colette takes the scared and nervous people because she’s calming and patient and genuinely roots for them to pass. Smart, self-aware, and working on herself, Colette is adorably neurotic, bad with boundaries, and often prioritizes other peoples’ feelings over her own.

Paramount+‘s delightful Australian import Colin From Accounts is gearing up for its Season 2 return. With it, we await the outcome of Ashley (Harriet Dyer) and Gordon’s (Patrick Brammall) attempt to get their dog Colin back after prematurely handing him over to another family at the end of Season 1. While Season 2 hit screens in Australia earlier this year, all eight episodes of the comedy are slated to drop on Paramount+ beginning Thursday, September 26th. In anticipation of the show’s return stateside, TV Insider caught up with the stars, creators, writers, and real-life spouses Dyer and Brammall to discuss what is in store. For those who need a refresher, the series follows Echo Park Brewery proprietor Gordon and doctor-in-training Ashley who meet under unusual circumstances when she flashes him in the street. The distraction leads Gordon to accidentally hit a dog which ultimately brings the pair together. Joel Pratley...

Romantic comedies are an endangered species these days. They’re practically extinct from movie theaters, and most TV rom-coms are either not all that funny or weighed down by metric tons of plot convolutions. But I have good news: Paramount+’s Australian charmer Colin From Accounts, returning for Season 2 this Thursday — I’ve seen all eight Season 2 episodes — is a shining example of romantic comedy at its very best, with lots of genuine laughs, pleasurably low stakes and winning performances from stars/co-creators Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer.

The beloved Australian rom-com series is finally back for its second season and while I want to say that everything is going hunky dory for our leading couple, in my opinion, it just won’t end up that way. Created by and starring the real-life couple Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall, Colin from Accounts is back with its much anticipated second season with the always-bickering Ashley and Gordon.
Colin from Accounts picks up the story of Ashley and Gordon two weeks after they gave up Colin to a family of three. Now, regretting their decision they have been pestering the family to give Colin so that they don’t have to deal with the question of what their relationship is like if Colin is taken out of the equation because he was the one who brought them together.

When it comes to television, titles can make or break a show, and I’ll admit that I was guilty of assuming I knew what Paramount+‘s Colin From Accounts was about when I saw the title. Surely it’s a workplace comedy about a man named Colin who works in accounting, right? Wrong. I’ll admit I was guilty of making such an assumption, but the Australian comedy from creators and stars Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer is far from a workplace comedy. The eight-episode first season landed on Paramount+ in November 2023, and with Season 2 set to drop on September 26, below are reasons why now is the perfect time to become a fan of the show before the latest episodes arrive. The Dog [Spoiler Alert] The show’s title doesn’t refer to a man working in accounting, but rather the name that Gordon (Brammall) and Ashley (Dyer) give to a...

Welcome back to the quirky world of Colin from Accounts! This loved Australian sitcom returned for a second season with more offbeat humor and heart. If you enjoyed the first season, you’ll be delighted to learn that season two lives up to its predecessor.
Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer have brought us back to Sydney, catching up with Ashley and Gordon’s ongoing adventures. When we last saw them, they had regretfully handed over their beloved dog Colin only to start scheming how to get him back. Season two wastes no time reuniting the pups and putting the couple through new embarrassments.
Over the next few hundred words, I’ll look at how this new batch of episodes handles the return of old favorites alongside fresh faces. We’ll examine if the wit and wisdom that made season one a breakout success still shine through. My aim is to...

In the sneak peek clip, above, Gordon (Patrick Brammall) and Ashley (Harriet Dyer) are hitting the dog park with the show’s titular pup, Colin, but not everything is as it appears. While the couple frolics with their terrier, Angus (Sam Cotton), the man they gave Colin away to at the end of Season 1, disrupts their momentary joy. “This has got to stop,” Angus tells them bluntly. Realizing they’ve been caught, Gordon and Ashley don’t have much of a defense for themselves. “Phoebe, keep Peppy back there,” Angus calls out to his wife (played by Sophie Bloom) as their daughter Berlin (Indiana Clarke) plays with the dog in the background. Once again, the Emmy Awards nominations don’t include a slew of TV favorites. Among the most notable snubs: Emma Stone for Best Drama Actress and a complete shutout of her Showtime series “The Curse.” Equally surprising was “Shogun” supporting actresses Moeka Hoshi and Fumi Nikaido missing the ballot. On the comedy side, Netflix’s “The Gentlemen” missed for Comedy Series and a forecasted bid for its star Theo James. And although “The Bear” had a solid morning overall, Abby Elliott wasn’t able to ride the wave of fortune in Best Comedy Supporting Actress. Oliver Platt and Matty Matheson were also snubbed on the Supporting Actor side.
Below, we enumerate the top 50 Emmys snubs in our estimation. These were the shows and performers that we thought had a strong chance to number among this year’s nominees. Let us know if there are others missing from this list that...

There’s a good chance she’ll make the cut again in that category in 2024. But can she break into Best Comedy Actress this time? She’ll have to get past two beloved “Saturday Night Live” alums.
First, the good news. Four of last year’s five nominees for Best Comedy Actress are absent this year. Christina Applegate (“Dead to Me”) and Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) saw their shows come to an end last season, while Natasha Lyonne (“Poker Face”) and Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday”) were on hiatus this past season.

The 34th annual Gotham Awards will take place December 2 and the second Gotham TV Awards will be held June 2, 2025, organizer the Gotham Film & Media Institute said Thursday.
The news comes after the inaugural Gotham TV Awards were held earlier this month; the small-screen categories originally were part of the wintertime, movie-focused Gotham Awards before then.
The 2023 Gotham Awards bestowed its Best Feature prize on Celine Song’s Past Lives, which went on to land a pair of Oscar nominations including for Best Picture. The 2024 ceremony will include two additional competitive categories: the newly created Best Director as well as Breakthrough Performer (returning after a hiatus).
Other winners last year in the gender-neutral acting categories including Lily Gladstone, who took Outstanding Lead Performance for her work in The Unknown Country; and Charles Melton taking Supporting Performance for May December. Eventual five-time Oscar nominee Anatomy of a Fall won for International Feature and Screenplay.

During the process of writing Colin From Accounts, the spiky Australian comedy with a sweet center that launched this year on Paramount+, creator and star Harriet Dyer decided she didn’t want to make a “doggy show,” she recalls. “She didn’t want it to be cutesy,” her co-creator, co-star and husband, Patrick Brammall, added.
She was dissuaded, however, from changing the central premise, in which two lonely people, played by Dyer and Brammall, are drawn together while caring for a disabled dog, whose injury they are both inadvertently responsible for. (The alternate version: replacing the canine with an elderly woman.)
The show starts off as Ashley (Dyer), a medical student, cheekily flashes her boob to microbrewery owner Gordon (Brammall) while she’s crossing the street and he’s behind the wheel of a car. In his distraction, he hits the dog, Colin, who is wandering the streets. They end...
