Rajendra Nagar (often spelled Rajender Nagar or Rajinder Nagar[1]) is a residential colony in Central Delhi Delhi, India. The name comes from Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first president of India. It is bordered by the Central Ridge Protected Forest on the east and south, IARI on the west, and Karol Bagh on the north. It is a constituency in the Legislative Assembly of Delhi The current Councillor for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is Mr. Rajesh Bhatia of the Bhartiya Janata Party.[2] Vijender Garg is an MLA from Rajinder nagar of AAP (Aam Admi Party) who won with wooping margin of 20,051 votes, defeating two major party canditates from BJP and Congress in recent 2015 Concluded Election.[3]

Overview

Like most of the colonies developed in the 1950s, Rajender Nagar was primarily a Punjabi refugee colony which came up during the years after the partition of India in 1947, when several such residential neighbourhoods sprang up in the New Delhi area, including other examples such as Lajpat Nagar and Patel Nagar.[citation needed]

Rajender Nagar benefits from links with the Delhi metro.

UPSC Coaching

After the start of the Metro services in Delhi (Blue Line) in the late 2006, Vajiram and Ravi established their IAS Coaching Institute in 2007. This was followed by Sriram and a slew of other Institutes. According to unofficial sources close to 20 to 30,000 students live in and around Old Rajender Nagar, ORN (Karol Bagh, Patel Nagar, Shadipur, New Rajinder Nagar etc.), which is now called the hub of IAS Coaching (along with Mukherjee Nagar, which is in North Delhi) in India. Students come from across the country and most of them leave their jobs to prepare full-time for the elite UPSC Civil Services Examination. Unlike Mujherjee Nagar which houses a lot of students who are preparing for different other examinations like BANK PO (Probationary Officers), SSC etc. Old Rajender Nagar houses mainly IAS aspirants thus providing a better overall environment. However, the living costs in the two areas are in the ration of 1:2.

The Fees charged by coaching institutes, as in late 2015 varies as such,

General Studies Mains Foundation Program around Rs 1,00,000

Respective Optionals Subjects around Rs 30-50,000

e.g. Geography, Sociology, Public Administration

Test Series varies from Rs 10,000 to 20,000

The area has seen a skyrocketing growth in the number of Coaching Institutes and Property Dealers and supporting services (like housekeeping, stationary, book shops etc. ). The average prices for a single room varies from Rs 7,000 to 15,000.

Numerous Reading Rooms, which are called Libraries in the local parlance have also mushroomed. They provide good studying atmosphere, facilities like cafeterias, newspapers and magazine subscriptions and are Air Conditioned. The prices vary between Rs 1200 -2500 per student per month.
