Rupert Scholz (born 23 May 1937 in Berlin) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union.

Career

Scholz was a law professor before assuming ministerial role.[1] He was the federal minister of defence from 1988 to 1989 in the cabinet led by the then prime minister Helmut Kohl.[2] Gerhard Stoltenberg succeeded him in the post in the cabinet reshuffle.[2] Scholz also served as Berlin senator.[2]

In 2007, Scholz stated that Germany should strive to become a nuclear power.[3]
