Following in the paw-steps of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) is The Wolverine (2013), not to be confused with Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). Based on the comic books “Wolverine” (1982) by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, this installment trails Logan/Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) as he heads to Japan to pay respects to Yashida (Hal Yamanouchi), an old acquaintance dying of cancer. While in Toyko, the adamantium-clawed mutant is offered an opportunity to rid himself of his immortality, which he views as a curse. Nevertheless, Wolverine refuses to give up his powers. Consequently all hell breaks loose, especially when the Yakuza (the infamous gangsters of Japan) interrupt Yashida’s funeral. As such, the slicing and dicing superhero finds himself on the defensive. If that’s not perilous enough, Wolverine discovers a robotic parasite attached to his heart. Now, if it was attached to another organ, that would be a completely different situation! Under the direction of James Mangold, the movie includes Famke Janssen, Ken Yamamura, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Will Yun Lee, and the skin on Mr. Jackman! Marvel Comics fans will marvel when they fast forward to the film’s 21-minute mark. That’s when the mutton-chopped hottie flashes his abs and back as he’s forced to take a bath. Rub a dub dub! While in the tub, Hugh touts his hairy chest and impeccable pecs. Perhaps that’s why this box office hit nabbed nominations for Favorite Movie Actor and Action Movie at the People’s Choice Awards, as well as raising great interest in spank banks all over the world!
