Mark Ruffalo has charm to spare.

Jennifer Garner possesses the flair and instincts of a screwball comedienne.

There are some neat lessons here, but they unfortunately get lost inside the wooden writing and character development.

It's not a perfect film, and nor does it have much that you've not seen before. You can predict it, you're unlikely to be surprised, but it's glossy and slick, and very easy to watch.

Garner makes the most of this humble, good-natured rom-com, propelling it from the minor leagues to the majors.

13 Going on 30, directed with a sweet touch by Gary Winick (Tadpole), is an immensely likable if unchallenging comedy.

Overall the tale is flimsy and predictable, but it's buoyant and engaging enough not to matter.

A few laughs, but the premise is not developed with much comic flair.

Apart from the moment when Garner unselfconsciously flirts with a 13-year-old boy, the film is pretty much devoid of comic spark, and though it seems to have sweet intentions, it keeps sending mixed messages.

13 Going on 30 is best when it's adorable.

A sweet little fantasy that lacks the bite of Big, the film''s just a pleasant getaway. Nothing more.

[Jennifer Garner] makes you really feel like there's a 13 year old girl in that body.

It's silly fun with a soundtrack full of 1980s hits and plenty of ridiculous fashion.

There's not a lot of originality to this film.

Touching and hilarious Jennifer Garner romcom.

Jennifer Garner breaks character by forgetting that she's playing an awkward 13-year-old girl in a 30-year-old woman's body in this girly comedy

Naive as its young heroine, but also as good-natured. [Blu-ray]

The sheer predictability of the plot means it doesn't really stand up to the scrutiny of anyone older than 15.

A radiant woman looking like she's having the time of her life makes up for a lot of inconsistencies.

A rehash of familiar material, but the engaging Garner is charismatic enough to make it magical.
