Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com While wolf attacks are typically metaphorical, sometimes they are all too literal. Trina B IN A NUTSHELL: The story takes place at a cabin deep in the wilderness. A man, his fiancée, and her old guy friend from childhood hang out and go hunting, only to find out they’re the ones being hunted. The film was directed by Adam MacDonald, who also co-wrote it with Joris Jarsky and Enuka Okuma. THINGS I LIKED: The cast features the lovely Missy Peregrym, Joris Jarsky, and Damon Runyan. I don’t know if they did their own stunts, but some of the scenes were pretty good, especially when Missy falls down a big hill. Gorgeous cinematography by Christian Bielz. There are a lot of intriguing camera angles that keep things interesting. The wolves and attacks look very real THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE: A lot of time is wasted in Act 1 dancing around and drinking. Sophie’s fiancé is painted to be a real jerk in Act 1, so you just assume he’s going to be the first one to die. No love lost, right? Fortunately, it’s not quite that simple… There’s a nighttime bed scene that is super dark visually. It’s hard to see what’s happening, but it’s the pillow talk that’s more important than the visuals anyway. Arrows and knives don’t always work, but yelling at a wolf does? Lame. The movie kind of felt like a shark movie, if you know what I mean. It would have been more fun to fill the stories with more characters. That being said, the plot was fairly simple and straightforward. TIPS FOR PARENTS: Some profanity with F-bombs We see bloodied, bodies with broken, torn-up body parts We see a people and animals killed in bloody, gory, brutal, visceral ways Talk of young teens sleeping together To see my full review, go to my Movie Review Mom YouTube channel! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review Jorge H It was a poorly executed movie with characters you can't sympathize with. The first hour of the film focuses on a love triangle, and when the good part with the wolves comes, the decisions the characters make are stupid and frankly don't make sense. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/17/24 Full Review CANINE T Terrible movie, not believable, plot was pointless Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/17/24 Full Review Spencer S OUT COME THE WOLVES is a bare bones survival horror flick, one that is elevated greatly by the tense performance from Missy Peregrym. Adam McDonald shows off his utter respect and fear for the wilderness and the animals who roam there, and he does so with a flair for the gory. There isn't a whole lot going on and surprisingly the movie really excels in its quieter moments. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/16/24 Full Review Tim B This movie was entertaining at best but could have been so much better. I love movies like this and it wasn't horrible. Filming was okay but the story was boring and stupid. Girl brings ex lover with new bf hunting , old bf leaves new guy to die? Come on. And the woman who was supposedly "a better shot" than the hunter, misses every single gdmn shot ! They didn't even have her make ONE arrow hit on target... Its like they took a bit from every single similar movie and combined it into one but missed every single mark... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/16/24 Full Review Audience Member A Thrilling Hunt for Survival Adam MacDonald's "Out Come the Wolves" is a pulse-pounding survival thriller that expertly blends stunning visuals with intense suspense. The film follows a trio of friends on a hunting trip that takes a terrifying turn when they become trapped in a remote wilderness and hunted by a vicious pack of wolves. The film's greatest strength lies in its ability to build tension and keep the audience on the edge of their seats. MacDonald's direction is masterful, utilizing the vast, unforgiving landscape to create a sense of isolation and dread. The cinematography is breathtaking, capturing the beauty and brutality of the wilderness with equal aplomb. The performances are equally impressive. Missy Peregrym delivers a solid performance as Sophie, a skilled hunter who must confront her past and her fears in order to survive. Joris Jarsky and Damon Runyan also give solid performances as Sophie's friends, Kyle and Nolan. While the plot may be somewhat predictable, "Out Come the Wolves" is a thrilling ride that never fails to entertain. The film's intense action sequences, combined with its exploration of themes of friendship, survival, and the power of nature, make it a must-see for fans of horror and thriller films.
