Food to go - Way to go!

Our wonderful Fruit and Nut Tree group are connuing their legacy of planng trees in our parks to provide free food for us in the years to come. Last year they planted 30 fruit trees in six dierent locaons, and theyve recently planted another 40. These have been a mix of apple, pear, nectarine, plum, walnut and hazelnut trees. Some were added to last years locaons Manse, McQuarrie and Ball Street Reserves and Russell Square while those planted in Elizabeth Park and Dunbarton, Dunbeath, Avon Road and Wagner Street Reserves are the start of new orchards.

Mulch Materials Needed

The Fruit and Nut Tree Group urgently need more vegetable material to make mulch for example, hedge or plant cungs (not roses) and tree pruning but no weeds in anything, please. If you can help, please ring or text Marie 027 207 8575

Marn Street Developments

Yes, there has been some progress on our plan to make Mar n Street into a great place to meet, sit, watch the world and celebrate. The trac engineering study has been done and detailed design opons are now being developed. Well have a summary of these in our next newsleer, followed by a public meeng the week aer that. So mark your calendars now and come along to the discussion on Tuesday 15 October, 7pm, inside South City Mall.

And it doesnt end there. The group also make their own mulch and take care of the trees on an ongoing basis (see details of the free pruning workshop in our What s On secon) and that s aer theyve had a sausage sizzle every month to raise the money to buy all the trees themselves. Thanks Fruit and Nuts!

Prey good actually, and way beer than a year ago. South Alive recently completed it s second round of asking you about the way things look and feel in South Invercargill and were delighted to say that 58% of people asked said they now feel proud versus only 35% a year ago. That s a massive increase of 65% over last year see the full results in the graph below.

I feel a sense of pride in the way South Invercargill looks and feels
We also asked if youd heard about South Alive and 59% said yes. We asked you what kind of a dierence weve made and: 63% said we were making a big, or quite a bit of dierence an 85% increase from last year 21% said we were making a reasonable dierence for the me weve been going 3% said no dierence and 13% didnt know

The hanging baskets

It s really great to see a new batch of hanging baskets in place and we can now sit back and watch as they become a mass of blue, yellow and green colour along Elles Road. Big thanks to our Beaucaon Team members who did all the work, and who take care of the baskets on a daily basis.
