Welcome to the Eighty First Edition .
Well done to MIS Staff /Friends/Parents Football Team! As some of you may know (if you read our Tweets), they took part in the recent Highland Games held at Kanda University of International Studies. Not only did they play brilliantly but they actually won the over 35s competition. (Despite not all being over 35!) Well done to allwere very proud of your efforts! Children taking the Keiyo Line Can I ask parents to ensure that any children coming to school or going home using trains on the Keiyo Line remember that they represent the school during this time. Whilst wearing school uniforms we would expect and hope that all children remember the following. Not to leave snack packets on the floors of trains. Not to refuse to leave Priority Seats. Not to shout or run around the trains. Not to leave snack crumbs all over seats or on the floor. Unfortunately some children have not being following these expectations. Thank you to those children who do always behave so well whilst riding the train.
New Screen for the hall A new screen was fitted into the hall yesterday. This large screen will ensure that all children can see in the future.
Miss Amatt
We were delighted to hear that Miss Amatt gave birth to a healthy baby boy on October 25th. Both mother and son and doing very well and we hope to see them in school for a visit in the not too distant future. Perhaps we can share a photo at some point in the future. Miss Amatt thanks everyone for their good wishes
Information SessionOctober 26th On Saturday October 26th we had quite a few families attending our annual Information Session held during the morning. Luckily the weather was not bad enough to cancel this event although some families did cancel due to the rain. As always, there were many families who are still abroad who could not attend and some who have already toured the school on previous occasions. Parental/PTA help on November 30th. Please can you come into school on Saturday November 30th and help on this very important day? We are hoping we can get help serving drinks and/or ushering visiting teachers/Heads around the school when they visit for the Chiba Private Elementary Schools Training Day. Contact Taguchi-san at mispta0000@gmail.com by 8th November if you can help. Thank you in advance.
On November 6th we are delighted to be able to welcome Avo Kuyumjian to host a concert at MIS. We would also like to thank one of our Friends of the School Hashimoto-san who has kindly organised this concert for our children. Born in Beirut, Professor Avo Kuyumjian began his studies when he was 12 years old at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He was the youngest student at the time majoring in piano performance. Professor Kuyumjians career as an artist performer, professor, director, and administrator is marked by the many accomplishments he has achieved in the field of music since he won the first price at the Sixth International Beethoven Competition in Vienna in 1981. Since then he has performed in well renowned concert halls in Europe, the United States, Canada and Japan. On November 6th at 2.00pm he will perform the following pieces to children. Haydn Sonata in C Major. Schubert Impromptus No.2 & No.3 Brahms Fantasia No.1 to No.7
If any parents wish to come and attend this concert, please inform your teacher via the Communication Book. Obviously we would be very happy to oblige.

Tsunami Practice On Tuesday October 29th we were pleased to undertake an Earthquake and Tsunami practice. The children gathered on the school field after which we walked to Sogo High School which is one of our tsunami evacuation sites. I am pleased to inform parents that it took no longer than 13 minutes for all the children to walk safely to Sogo High School evacuation site.
Please visit our Face Book site to see a video of the Tsunami Practice.
Lost Property At our recent Sports Day, a camera stand was left behind. The make is as follows: SILK S740 . If anyone left it hereplease let the office know.
Grade 5 visited Chiba TV this week!
November 30th As mentioned in a recent letterNovember 30th is a very important day for MIS. We have about 200 visiting teachers and Heads from other private Elementary schools in Chiba coming to our school to watch teaching and learning in practice and we have been preparing for this for some time. We also have some visitors from another Article One International School attending. As mentioned in a previous letter it is very important that all Elementary children come to school on this normal school day. The following Monday is an alternate holiday and so, if a child is absent this will be marked as an unauthorized absence in their records. The only exception will be for Grade 6 children taking an entrance examination for Kaetsu Ariake Junior High School. Thank you for your support.
Recent Visit to UK
As parents know, we will have a second Grade 6 class in April 2014. As a result I visited the UK over the last school holidays to interview for prospective new teaching staff. It was (I feel ) a very successful trip and there were some excellent candidates. When I returned I was amused to find out that a couple of MIS families had been to Wembley Arena to watch England vs Poland the same time as I had. Its a small world! Future Dates

Potato Picking Today and yesterday children went to Narita to take part in sweet potato picking. As with all excursions that we offer, we hope it was a stimulating experience for them. Please be reassured that the radiation levels of the area was established before the children went and there is no possible danger or higher than average risk from eating these sweet potatoes. The children had a wonderful time and came back with bags of potatoes and smiles on their faces.
