Today, I taught my first lesson on Spelling, specifically base words with endings ed or ing. The kids seemed to really enjoy the basketball activity I incorporated while they were reading, writing, and spelling their new words for the week. Also, I began to integrate some adjustments into the regular classroom routines that align with how I would like things when I start full-time teaching (such as- writing spelling and reading words on the Word Wall, having students copy down their homework assignments in their agendas in the morning, and emphasizing the importance of having everyone gather on the carpet for instruction). The majority of the children did well with the new adjustments, but there were others who I may have to work with on making changes to their everyday routines.

Today seemed to be a long day; either our patience was running thin or the kids were extremely rambunctious! I taught for the second time on a Spelling lesson, which focused explicitly on the pattern rule for adding the ending ed or ing. I had the students work on their Spelling mats in order for them to visualize the pattern as they created each word. Most of the students did a good job spelling on the mats, but when given the corresponding sheet, they had a difficult time and I had to explain the pattern rule again to almost every group. The children appeared to really enjoy working with the Spelling mats though; it was a great handson activity!

Everyone seemed to be refreshed this morning, including Mrs. Hall and myself! I was incredibly happy to see that, even though I had to remind several children to select their lunch, after saying it one time, almost every one of my students started writing their homework assignments in their agendas. This made me proud to see an inkling of responsibility emerging in the children! I gave a Practice Spelling Test and some students made careless mistakes, so I tried to remind them to study the Practice Test with corrections that I gave back, in order to prepare for their real Spelling Test tomorrow. I cannot wait to see each of my children in the morning; I really do love my class !
