How will we assess learning?

We will use two rubrics while we are observing the students and their work; a content rubric and an information
literacy rubric. Both of these rubrics focus on the students ability to find, organize, and present information in a
wide variety of sources. The content rubric will also assess students on how they are able to work with
classmates and cooperate with each other.

Library Resources: Regions of Nebraska Project

The students in the 3rd grade class were presented a list of resources that will help guide them through this
project. The student were also given the opportunity to go ahead and search for information from sources other
than what I had given them.
Reading for information, pleasure, and lifelong learning: During class time, the students used these resources to
get information for the slide. Most of these students kept their resources after the project was done because
they gained a great deal of interest about Nebraska. There were students who told me facts about certain
Nebraska that I didnt know.
Professional Tools Used to Select the Materials: I found information in our library about the regions by searching
for certain areas that the students had chosen like the Panhandle, Sandhills, Chimney Rock, Indian Reservations,
Platte River, Big Blue River, Missouri River, etc.
Group Instruction: I showed the class the list of regions they could choose to research in Nebraska. I showed
them where they would have the best luck finding information on the regions in the library and in their
classroom. The class has 17 students, so I was able to help each student out if they were stuck and couldnt
move on in the project because of an issue.
Support cultural, social, and linguistic needs of the individual learners: I searched for books and website that
offered realistic reading levels for third grade students. There are books available in the library that could help
them with their project, but I talked with the third grade teacher and we both agreed that it was beyond their
reading level at this time in the school year. No students had visual or hearing issues, so that made it much
easier for me to find good resources for them as a class.
