Induction:
Today
is
the
start
of
our
badminton
unit.
Badminton
is
a
sport
that
requires
a
lot
of
hand-eye
coordination.
I
want
everyone
to
get
a
partner.
Now,
shake
hands
with
your
partner.
The
grip
that
you
use
to
shake
your
partners
hand
will
be
the
same
grip
you
will
use
to
hold
onto
the
racquet.
I
will
hand
out
racquets
and
when
I
give
them
to
you,
I
want
you
to
place
them
next
to
you
until
I
tell
you
to
grab
them.
Purpose:
Badminton
is
a
sport
that
requires
a

of

Development
badminton
is
very
similar
to
a
forehand
swing
in
tennis
and
ping-pong.
The
cues
are
the
following:
1)
pinch
birdie,
2)
pull
back,
3)
swing
and
strike
(with
center),
4)
follow
through.
Students
will
perform
the
motion
without
the
racquet.
After,
students
will
perform
the
motion
with
the
racquet.
When
students
have
performed
the
skill
competently,
they
will
use
a
birdie
and
practice
with
a
partner
who
will
be
about
10
feet
away.
After
some
practice,
I
will
introduce
the
backhand
swing.
The
cues
are
the
same
except
the
student
will
have
dominant
foot
forward,
and
racquet
positioned
across
the
opposite
waist
(see
diagram
below).
The
student
will
pull
back
from
the
opposite
side,
strike,
and
follow
through
across
the
body.
The
racquet
should
end
up
on
the
same
side
above
the
shoulder.
Students
will
practice
without
a
birdie
first
to
get
the
motion
correct.
After
a
few
attempts,
students
will
practice
with
a
birdie
towards
a
partner.
They
will
strike
the
birdie
towards
each
other.
Demonstration
Plan:
I
will
demonstrate
the
forehand
swing
slowly
going
over
each
step.
Then
I
will
have
2-3
students
demonstrate,
one
at
a
time.
Then
I
will
demonstrate
the
backhand
swing
slowly
going
over
each
step
one
at
a
time.
I
will
have
2-3
students
demonstrate.
