Course Overview

Materials

This high school prep course will build upon the writing, reading,
speaking and listening components fundamental to middle school
English. Our readings will include a variety of genres, time periods,
authors and themes. You will write a personal narrative, the analytical
TEA essay, creative poetry, fiction and a well-documented research
paper. In addition to shorter and longer speaking assignments, you will
regularly participate in Socratic Seminars, fishbowl discussions, speech
clubs, and extensive group work.

Formative Assessment
In class:
You can expect comments on formative assessments, which include
quizzes, journal entries, written activities, class discussions, writing
conferences, and reading logs, and will be recorded every two weeks on
Managebac.
Homework:
Students may receive up to 30 minutes of homework per night. If no
homework has been assigned, students are required to read an English
novel, short story, or poetry for at least 30 minutes.

Summative Assessment
You will be assessed using the language and literature assessment
criteria at least once per unit. These tasks will be given to you in
advance and will be recorded on Managebac.
